Welcome, friends. The purpose of this regular series is to promote enthusiasm and action among Daily Kos members. Romney will very likely out-fundraise President Obama. However, we believe that we can still win if (1) we can remain competitive financially, and (2) we volunteer our time and energy (GOTV, canvassing, phonebanking, LTE, ...).

ObamaNightlyNews posts every night at 9:00 ET, 8:00 CT, 7:00 MT, 6:00 PT

Kaili Joy Gray, in an excellent diary, pointed out Willard's key moral failing.

CHRIS WALLACE: So, Tagg, what are family meals like?
TAGG ROMNEY: A little bit of craziness. Dad always goes in line first because he doesn't want to wait for all the grand children because it takes forever. Parents are cutting their meat and he's usually finished by the time the rest of us sit down
This speaks to the heart of the wealth unit's problem, the ayn randishness that makes up its source code. From this vantage point, everything else about the wealth unit can be understood. Taking Adam Smith far beyond what he ever intended, greed for self now motivates every action undertaken. Every thought now considers how can I enrich myself. The belief that if we all do this, then society will be better off justifies it. These professed creationists practice harsher evolutionary economics than we ever have. [This is well worth clicking on the link and reading !!!] This explains the photo. It explains the chosen course of"> profession. It explains Bain and its activities. It explains one of the wealth unit's comments : the trees being the right height. The trees, you understand, merely exist to serve King Romney. They are, therefore, only the right height, if they are the right height to serve him best. All of the wealth unit and its life cycle can only be properly understood through this framework. Thus, the wealth unit chose Paul Ryan to be its fellow candidate unit. It is the survival of the fittest economically. This explains the regressive nature of its preferred tax structure.
Mitt Romney flashes cash with his Bain buddies

Paul Ryan and the right's confused embrace of ayn rand and Jesus

But when it came to the next question, a code of ethics to observe for the salvation of one's soul -- (this means: what must one do in actual practice in order to save one's soul?) -- Jesus (or perhaps His interpreters) gave men a code of altruism, that is, a code which told them that in order to save one's soul, one must love or help or live for others. This means, the subordination of one's soul (or ego) to the wishes, desires or needs of others, which means the subordination of one's soul to the souls of others.

This is a contradiction that cannot be resolved.

The Convention
Democratic Underground reports that 7 speakers at the republican convention are birthers. Let's see if we can name them : I will start the list and you all can finish : Willard Mitt Romney, Donald Trump, ....  (may I note that even US News and World Report put the following subtitle there : [Read: Racism shows its face in presidential campaign.] )

LaFeminista tells us of Erick's fear about a huge floor fight

Could it be Sarah Palin ?

Think Progress gives us the scoop on Today's speakers at their convention

Two extremely highly recommended diaries - One by Onomastic which is, imo, an amazing diary a just WOW diary ! That children go hungry in the US, the wealthiest nation on Earth, is utterly unacceptable ! Cutting food stamps is heartless and completely immoral ! and another by TomP which is required reading, in my view, to understand the republican lies about welfare

Arizona is just so screwed up
Arizona’s Secretary of State Ken Bennett (R), who apologized for embarrassing the state earlier this year after he threatened to keep Barack Obama off the November ballot if the president couldn’t prove he was really born in the United States
TPM Muckraker elaborates
After days of ridicule for launching a conspiracy theory-fueled investigation into Barack Obama’s birth certificate, Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett on Tuesday backed off his threat to keep the president off the ballot in November and apologized to his state.
Last week, Bennett told a different Phoenix radio station it was “possible” he would keep Obama off the state’s ballot in November if Hawaii did not provide him with a satisfactory answers to his investigation.
Wow - words fail.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
