I know, I know, this isn't much of a diary. But this isn't much of a convention, is it? Which I'm not watching, but am reading about. Clint Eastwood? Well, that locks down the demographic that bases its votes on the opinions of Spaghetti Western stars. Just as Paul Ryan locked down the lying liar vote. To his credit, Eastwood did earlier this year come out in support of gay marriage. To his discredit, he apparently doesn't care enough about it not to support a guy who doesn't support gay marriage, nor does he care enough about it not to appear before a large crowd of raging bigots. Oh well.
You know how conservatives love to decry and belittle "Hollywood Liberals"? Funny how they rabidly support any Hollywood Conservative, whether it was calling for a Constitutional amendment that would have allowed Arnold Schwarzenegger to run for president, even before Schwarzenegger had demonstrated whether or not he was actually even minimally capable of governing. Which he ended up definitively proving he was not, after leaving California a disastrous mess, and his approval ratings in the toilet. And then this Republican convention for some reason highlighted Janine Turner, as if being a long-forgotten C-List semi-celebrity in some way confers credibility. And then Eastwood. Because if there's any demographic Republicans need to prove then can carry, it's wealthy elderly white men. Or something.
Carry on.
