I'm sitting here, the morning after the clown college edition of a national convention, trying to figure out why ANYONE, right or left, is smiling today.
See, I'm not disappointed, nor am I happy that it makes "our" side look better.
I'm pissed off, furious, out of my head angry after that sad show.
Want to know why? Follow me below the decorative orange croissant...
There's not even one reason I'm pissed. My anger is over several levels...
We deserve better than this bullshit dog and pony show! They trotted out this list of people, most of whom are smart enough to know better, and they LIED TO US. They weren't even subtle about it. They fed us a bucket of shit, and the vast majority of people either cheered while choking it down, or sat on the other side laughing about how horrible it was. Again, why aren't more people just flat out pissed off?
That's just the convention itself. Look at the campaign that's being run. The Romney campaign has flat out said they are willing to keep spouting the same lies, because they are working. Look at that comment about the campaign not being directed by fact-checkers. That's not an irritation, that's not a joke... This is a national campaign for the highest office in the land that just stated, to the very same voters, that they are going to lie, because it gets them more votes. Again I ask, why aren't people intensely, near-irrationally pissed off about this fact?
The Republicans keep nominating super-partisan hacks, with either room temperature IQs, or the willingness to turn off their brains and vote the party line. The Democrats keep saying things like, "We'll work across the aisle". Bullshit! We have to stop giving these idiotic assholes validation by working with them. Mourdock from Indiana said, 'The highlight of politics, frankly, is to inflict my opinion on someone else". This is not serious governance, it's high school bullshit.
We (being not just the left, but the public in general) need to stop giving equal weight to the opinions of morons and paid hacks. Having an opinion doesn't confer the right to an audience for that opinion. The two sides of the debate aren't equidistant from the center. They need to stop being treated as if they are! Where is the legitimate journalism? It's been bought and paid for by the corporations.
We, as Democrats, need to stop grumbling and pulling back to our online enclaves of sanity. We need to get freaking irate, and go at them! Challenge the lies, challenge the ones who tell the lies, and the media that refuses to call them on their bullshit! Do it loudly, do it publicly, do it OFTEN.
We need to take a stand, or watch this nation get dragged further and further down. This far, no farther. We are as guilty as they are of focusing on our pet projects, rather than the whole. The vegans, the potheads, the atheists, the PETA folks, etc. need to get together and be willing to put their personal projects on hold for the good of the nation.
We need to stand for truth, while someone still remembers what the hell it is.
Thanks for listening to my rant. I look forward to any comments on this.
