I actually found Clint Eastwood's comfort in implying the "angry" and "uncooth," black man as president responding vulgarly as racist. But as soon as I say it I don't want to talk about it because it makes me angry at any people - Romney and his staff - that were so desperate to glom onto the wake of a legend that they put an octogenarian - and we all know there's a sensible social pass we give to the quasi-delusional elderly (and in Clint's particular case, it is attributable to that common elderly condition of thinking things are like they were thirty years ago, like when there were vaguely "reasonable" Republicans) - into a situation he never should have been in, and compromised the legacy of his substantial legend in the process.
Seriously. We should not be laughing. That pitiable old man had no business being out there. He spent his life - regardless of his politics - honing an art of direction, and of casting (an underrated skill) and now that he is very old and long past the age that anyone should demand anything from, he was turned into a goat because those scumbags were so desperate!
I remember my grandmother, who, no kidding, with a picture on the wall of her living room of FDR - because she was and I am that old - was enamored of Ronald Reagan. I wasn't old enough to be clear in arguing with her (as if anyone really "argues" with their grandmother), but I was old enough to sense incongruity, and then, as in years since that memory, have had to come to terms with how we are as mere mortals. We fade. We can't "keep the plot" as everyone is so fond of ribbing... Well, fuck you, for enjoying an old man who is lost.
Fuck you.
It was the Republicans who, in their dynamic cravenness who thought this a good idea and that should be the ONLY thing I read about on this site. The peripheral humor of the event itself is like a fart at a funeral. Don't laugh. Just shut the fuck up and show some respect.
That was a deplorable thing that happened.
Just think of the people who said, "hey, let's see if clint can keep it together for 10 minutes and that'll win us the white vote!"
It wasn't funny it was just tragic.
