As a lifelong Democrat senior citizen and supporter of Patrick Murphy ( I signed his nominating petition and contributed to his campaign) I am annoyed and aggrevated by the lousy campaign ads he is running.

There are many important issues that need to be brought to the attention of voters in the 18th District. Issues that need to be clearly described and presented in a convincing mature fashion, but his juvenile irritating commercials seem to be designed by Republicans to turn off support for him rather than gather support.

Name calling or ads calling attention to name calling are not going to win him the votes he needs to beat West. They are not only counterproductive but their creepy irritating format seems designed by a bunch of silly amateurs.

If he loses to West it will be because his commercials were bad enough to annoy even a strong Democrat like me.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

They are still tied.  How bad can Murphy's ad be?  Do you have a sample?

  •  Here's a couple of the ads. This first one is (6+ / 0-)

"different", but I don't find it horrible.  Could be a lot better, though. The others I found were not too bad.

    There may be more.

I don't see what's wrong with these ads.
They look good. The first two call out West using his own quotes and the third is a positive message.

Is there one in particular that the OP doesn't like.

30 seconds is not a lot of time to tackle issues and not everyone is concerned about the same things, you need to get a good general message out there. He does that.

do think it's worthwhile to point out how batshit insane West is. Just be more straight forward about it. No need to soft peddle it with the cutsey kids shit. Why not use clips of the crazy coming right from his crazy mouth?

And you're right, more issue ads are better, but it appears he's doing those too.

  •  If he loses to West it will be because (0+ / 0-)

a majority of voters in that district are as batshit insane as Allen West is, or are stunningly ignorant. Murphy can't do anything about the former, and it's difficult even with the best ads to affect the latter very much.

If the allegedly "professional journalists" in the mainstream news media weren't irredeemably corrupt, degenerate, poorly-informed, and above all, amazingly lazy, it wouldn't entirely fall on Murphy's shoulders to inform the citizens in that district who Allen West really is.

IMHO, the DNC and DCCC and the rest of the pols in the Democratic Party still have no real clue how toxic the media environment is, and what they need to do to effectively counter it.

  •  I wouldn't call them "terrible"... (0+ / 0-)

Rating them it would be 6 with the kids, 7 with West's voting record, and 6 with I'm a CPA.

The "kids" ad was the one that I found most annoying.

All of the ads are just plain UNPLEASANT to watch.

The NEW district 18 doesn't include "batshit insane" Palm Beach County and has a Democratic MAJORITY of voters, many of whom may vote on the basis of "likeability" rather than issues.

We can't do anything about the media, we can't do anything about West's lies and bad manners, but we SHOULD be able to have Murphy present himself as a decent human being rather than having him get down in the gutter with West in his ads.

  •  I disagree. I think- his ads are targeted to the (0+ / 0-)

many people who have no clue who Allen West is, or why he is so disliked by those of us who are, and have been, paying attention.

West beat Ron Klein because of low voter turn-out and because those who did vote for West were motivated teabaggers.
