I'm just wondering when the Press (or the Republicans) will get around to asking the "Are you better off than you were four years ago" question to the auto manufacturers.

Car sales post strong August

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Car sales jumped in August as major automakers all reported better-than-expected numbers in what's shaping up to be one of the best months in years.

Sales at General Motors (GM, Fortune 500) were up 10.1% from a year ago, while Ford Motor (F, Fortune 500) reported a 12.6% rise. Chrysler Group posted a 14.1% improvement over a year ago.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

worse off than he was 4 years ago -- Osama bin Laden.

Of course they're not happy about that fact so they're trying to spin it as an Obama failure as well.

And Romney has already done the coveted triple backflip with a double twist on the auto bail out claiming he was against it because it would've been better if had done it (by not doing it). Or some such nonsense.

Romney's religion is only an issue because he's a high priest in the Church of Mammon.

  •  The MSM does cover these strong sales figures (0+ / 0-)

for the auto companies all the time, over the past two years that they have been happening.

They do not explicity mention Obama in these stories, in almost every case.

But my hope is that voters, at least high information ones, make that connection subconsciously every time they see one of these stories.

"Hey car companies are doing great now.  They have been for a while now.  Ever since that Obama guy has been in office, approximately.  Maybe he HAS been doing okay.  Maybe I should vote for him."

Well, that's uncharacteristically non-cynical and optimistic for me, but what can I say.  Must be in a good mood because I'm about to go have lunch.

  •  Biggest Month Ever for the Chevrolet Volt (0+ / 0-)

There were 2,831 Volts sold in August.  Sales were up 35% from July 2012.   Nissan only managed to sell 685 Leafs.

GM U.S. Sales Increase 10 percent

I have definitely been seeing more Volts on the road recently.   I saw to red ones as a matter of fact yesterday in a 10 min time span.
