The Nashville City Paper is reporting that the Franklin office of Pricewaterhouse Coopers was broken into, and that all of Romney’s available tax returns were stolen

The report indicates that Romney’s returns were delivered to the local offices of both the GOP and the Democrats, in an encrypted flash drive.
Ripping a page straight from Austin Powers, the data thieves are demanding—wait for it—one million dollars, in bitcoins. PwC likely knows if the theft was real at this point. And by the way this was handled, it seems that the thieves may have left a bit of a trail for the FBI and others to find them before their September 28 deadline.
This isn't the way to force these returns public. And it smells too much like the Bush National Guard records story.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but I am spending my day getting ready to listen to the Big Dog tonight.
