It is amazing that last week's Republican Convention was such a flop. For many of us it looked like a circus, a clown show. Evidently most Americans weren't impressed. Romney did NOT get a statistically significant increase in the polls. Romney's speech had lower tv ratings of any Presidential nominating speech in years. And, of course, the nonsensical, rambling role play of Clint Eastwood overshadowed the Romney speech. Eastwood was a pitiful, pathetic joke. As an exercise in political operations, the Republican Convention was a total bust. Gov. Dannel Malloy Dem of Connecticut said that every speaker at the Republican Convention talked about him or herself instead of their nominee. Finally, I don't remember anyone at the Republican Convention even mentioning workers or working families.
And this week, we celebrated Labor Day. Millions of union members all over America got together at picnics, rallies, marches, and other events to celebrate the contributions and victories of the American labor movement and to prepare for the next two months of political action. Our members will carry the President all over America.
So now we go to the Democratic Convention in Charlotte, NC. We can be sure that the Obama Campaign and the Democratic Party will not squander this huge tele-political convention.
Please get my book Playing Bigger Than You Are: A Life in Organizing to see how you can play a real and active role in this critical season.
While the Republicans talked about business and business leaders exclusively, the Middle Class and workers will take center stage at the Democratic Convention is Charlotte.
For a Southerner like me, it is exciting to see the Democratic Party competing in southern states. The President is competing, and can win in North Carolina and Virginia.
