Want four more years of President Barack Obama?
Vote for Obama.
Want four more years of gridlock, filibusters, and policies written by and for corporate lobbyists?
Ignore Congress and just worry about the Presidential election.
The Republican strategy is clear, and brilliant. Blame President Obama for all the failures of Congressional Republicans, and hope that no one notices who's really responsible.
2 years after the Tea Party Revolution moved the Overton Window to the right in Congress, what do we have to show for it?
Ezra Klein has made a pretty good argument that we've had the most ineffective Congresssince the Truman era.
So while nationally, Democrats look good in November, what are we doing about the down-ticket races?
It's all about voter turnout, and Republicans have the machinery to win just like they did in 1994 and 2010. Bill Moyers noted last week that former Christian Coalition chief Ralph Reed has escaped the Abramoff debacle relatively unscathed, continuing to take credit for Republican victories and capitalizing on the power of Fundamentalist churches to drive voter turnout.
While Democrats are high-fiving each other, groups opposed to Democrats are busily phone banking, handing out flyers, and blogging their hearts out trying to bring down the President and use a toxic combination of religious zealotry and right-wing hate to build a winning coalition for Mitt Romney.
So, what next?
Will you vote?
Will you make phone calls?
Will you write letters to your Republican elected officials and document the results?
Will you knock on doors to register voters?
Will you contact the corporate-sponsored media and keep them honest?
Time is short and there are less than two months until Election Day.
