The short book I've been working on for the last two years is ready for you to read, and it's free. Expressive Voting is my term for Approval Voting: you can vote for as many people as you wish, once each. It is a natural, but somehow uncommon, system that is free from the perverse strategies that Condorcet made famous (which IRV is sadly not).
The book also discusses Amar's system for circumventing the Electoral College, VoteHere's cyptographic auditing system, the ban on voting by felons, and more.
Expressive Voting is akin to Liking things on Facebook: you can like as many as you want, once each. The best rise to the top. Tell your friends and repeat.

Since I presented the first edition of this book as my gift to the playa at last year's Burning Man, I have been editing the text to make it more natural and effective.
The main thesis of the book is that we can make simple changes to our election system that will make it drastically more effective. The two main outcomes I envision would be the participation of smarter candidates, and the effective expression of complex opinions on the part of voters.
Like many of you, I despair at the low level of discourse that pervades our political culture. I have spared my readers from the full details of my thought experiments, but I think there are many ways that these reforms could raise the level of discourse, making it safe to be intellectual, and giving candidates a transparent view of the feedback their actions generate.
I also think that the average voter shouldn't have to do all of their own research. I am all for informed voting, but most of the information should come from trusted friends, rather than being personally vetted by each individual. I believe that my proposals in the Logistics chapter provide a fabulous mechanism for this.
I hope that some of you will find time for this, and share your feedback with me and others. Expressive voting, expressive voting, expressive voting.
Please remember that the book is free, and easy to get in the iPad iBooks store.
