While I've been trying to digest the conventions and the competing versions of how the USA should be governed, I've come to the conclusion that not only are the republicans reverting to the policies of W, the entire "Bain" philosophy began under W.
Think about it, W took over an entity in good standing, with good credit, the USA, burdened it with huge debt (two wars and the prescription drug program), ruined its credit rating, extracted the wealth to the wealthy owners, left its workers out of a job and assets, and left the entity a shell of its former self. It's hard to imagine what they'll do to what's left of the USA.
