It's takes some brass to attack someone for doing something you Failed to do for 7 years.

On the eve of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, former Vice President Dick Cheney accused President Obama of taking “sole credit” for the killing of Osama bin Laden and ignoring his presidential daily intelligence briefings.

“If President Obama were participating in his intelligence briefings on a regular basis then perhaps he would understand why people are so offended at his efforts to take sole credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden,”

If he was WHAT!?

Participating in his Presidential Daily Briefings?  You mean PDB's like this one?

After us missile strikes on his base in Afghanistan in 1998, Bin Ladin
told his followers he wanted to retaliate in Washington

Al-Qaida members - many of whom are U.S. Citizens - have resided in or traveled to the U.S. for years and the group apparently maintains a support structure that could aid attacks.

FBI Information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country Consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including surveillance of Federal Buildings in New York

Is that what he means?

Oh, and by the way - President Obama has never taken "Sole Credit" for ending the terrorism of Osama in Laden. From the White House Press Office from earlier this year.

[L]ast year, when we delivered justice to Osama bin Laden, I made it clear that our success was due to many people in many organizations working together over many years — across two administrations. That’s why my first call once American forces were safely out of harm’s way was to President Bush. Because protecting our country is neither the work of one person, nor the task of one period of time, it’s an ongoing obligation that we all share.
Ok, so that's that.

But then we shouldn't be surprised by this mewling and whining by Cheney.  Remember that when OBL was finally taken down he tried to claim that the credit belong with the CIA Torture/Water-Boarding program, except that the fact is that Khallid Sheik Mohammad Lied to Us about the courier who eventually led us to Bin Laden's compound.

…while the CIA may have learned the courier’s nickname earlier, they didn’t learn his true name until “four years ago”–so late 2006 at the earliest. And they didn’t learn where the courier operated until around 2009.

From these dates we can conclude that either KSM shielded the courier’s identity entirely until close to 2007, or he told his interrogators that there was a courier who might be protecting bin Laden early in his detention but they were never able to force him to give the courier’s true name or his location, at least not until three or four years after the waterboarding of KSM ended.

So that would be another Cheney Fail.  I'm thinking he should just shut up now, but we all know he won't.

8:45 AM PT: Remember when Chris Wallace of Fox News tried to blame 9-11 on Bill Clinton by claimng "he did nothing about the Cole Bombing".

It was Bush who did nothing and ignored Richard Clarkes desperate memos and PolMil Action Plan for Afghanistan.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
