"If I left Austin, I'd keep going until I hit Canada. And I'd drive around Oklahoma to do it..."

"Can Travis County secede from Texas?"

These aren't offhand statements. They're bumperstickers 'round these parts. They're overheard at bars and restaurants. They are the inside jokes of our tiny blue island floating on a sea of crazy.

And while I'm not the most social creature on the planet, I do see the need for connections in the real world. The need to know who's fighting alongside you, the need to look them in the eyes and say "Have you tried the Fireman's 4 on tap here? It's killer!"

In short, the need to have an Austin Kossacks meetup group. Follow me below the glyph for more...

So here we are. We live in or around a lovely city and we see the creativity and compassion of our fellow Texans every day. Why not see who among us aren't just burnt orange, but also Kossack orange? Hence, this group.

CenTex Kossacks is a meet-up group for all Kossacks in Austin and the suurounding 'burbs (Cedar Park, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, Manor, Leander...the list goes on as "smart-growth" continues...)

If you want to knock on doors for Obama, more power to you. If you want to get a beer, hell yeah. If you just want to have an extra set of hands to clap while you yell at the grackles and curse Rick Perry? We can do that. Use this group to pull it together.

I'm a skinny 30-something graphic designer with 2 dogs and some seriously left-wing views. I'm looking for kindred spirits and like-minded voters in the CenTex area to help keep the energy up as we cross out of this election season and get back to the business of building an American future.

Who's in?

7:42 AM PT: Feel free to message me if you'd like to be a part of a loose collection of liberals meeting for cheap drinks and rambling discourse in the Austin area.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
