More diaries and information about this project beneath the
Orange Squiggle of Down-Ticket Power

EDR compiles, describes and links election related diaries for down-ticket races through the closing months of election seasons. Down-ticket means any non-Presidential race.

This group was formed by the producers of a front page diary series that rescued election related diaries in 2006, 2008 and 2010. 2012 marks the first election since Daily Kos was born that there is blog devoted to election coverage - Daily Kos Elections.
Election Diary Rescue is proud to be a part of this project.

EDR chronicles the passion, power and effectiveness of political engagement and shines a light on candidates and issues that might be missed during an action-packed election cycle. It gives quick access to races, hopefully inspires people to write about contests that interest them, and has become an archive for thousands of election related diaries over the years. For the archive of this project, founded by sidinny, please go to our EDR closing diary for the 2010 election which links all the rescued diaries since 2006.

Format, Schedule & Tags:

Diarists can help the EDR mining team by identifying the race in the diary title, for example: (FL-14) or (GA-Gov) or (NY-Sen). Our miners will also be searching by tags so it will help if diarists include the tags "elections" and/or "EDR" in their diary tag list. New this year, you can write your first sentence or two as the synopsis you would like to see in the EDR description.

EDR's schedule for mining diaries is noon to noon. Our publishing schedule is in the evening. That means for example if you post your diary at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, we will include it in the EDR list in Thursday evening's post. If you publish your diary at 11:59 am on Thursday, it will be in the diary collection for Thursday evening as well.

Senate

[IN-Sen] IN-Sen: Joe Donnelly Is A Better Friend To Organized Labor Than Evan Bayh Was by poopdogcomedy - Donnelly (D) might be imperfect, but he's a lot better than Evan Bayh was, and much better than his opponent, Richard Mourdock (R).

[MO-Sen] Values Voter Summit was actually considering letting Todd Akin speak by Christian Dem in NC - Want to know how far out of touch the religious right really is? For a time on Friday, it looked like Todd Akin was actually due to speak at this weekend's Values Voter Summit. Akin (R) is running against incumbent Senator Claire McCaskill (D).

[NM-Sen] GOP Panic: Heather Wilson's gobsmacking new ad in New Mexico! by - SantaFeMarie - If you know anything about the current fever swamp that this the national Republican Party, the following needs no explanation beyond the simple fact that Heather Wilson (R) is running for the U.S. Senate, and this is the new ad she is running in prime time here in New Mexico. Her opponent is Martin Heinrich (D).

[NV-Sen] NV-Sen: Dean Heller: He's Never Been For You by poopdogcomedy - So far Shelley Berkley (D) has my favorite attack line of the campaign season.  "Dean Heller: He's Never Been For You". [Sen-Var] YO! Yeah YOU! It's all about the Senate by mole333 - Obama is likely to win. But it is looking like we may lose the Senate. This would in effect render the next two years of Obama's presidency largely blocked by obstructionism from the Greedy Oil Party. We have to win big in the Senate!

Rick Nolan (D) is Cravaack's opponent in the general election.

[NY-18] GOP Trainer, Spokesman & Candidate says "Let's hurl some acid at those female Democratic Senators" by The BigotBasher - Why, after the heinous comment, is Jay Townsend still the official campaign spokesman for Nan Hayworth (R, Incumbent in NY-19, now running in the 18th)?  Link included to help Sean Maloney, the Democrat in this race.

[House-Var] Taking Back the House: List of Competitive House Races by khyber900 - Detail-oriented and well illustrated breakdown of competitive House races. Dems need just 25 to regain the majority, this is a good resource to know where to help.

[WA-Var] WA Equality, Pot Legalization up huge! by thezzyzx - It's good news that Inslee is up 5 points, but how are the two big ballot measures doing? It's still 7 weeks out, but if Survey USA's poll is accurate, November will have a lot for Washingtonians to celebrate.

General

Polling consensus: Democrats gain in generic ballot. We can take back the House. by Nuisance Industry - This kind of shift may be a temporary result of a convention bounce. Or it may be the beginning of the kind of wave necessary to return Democrats to the majority in the House and retain the majority in the Senate. Link to donate to our 2012 Orange to Blue candidates included.

Back to the Drawing Board? Maryland Redistricting Redux by Answer Guy - In Maryland the new Congressional map is on this year’s ballot. Diarist expects the current map to be thrown out in November, attempts to draw a new map.

Bang-for-the-Buck Index 2012: Stretching our contribution dollars by David Jarman - While it's premature to start declaring the presidential race finished, that cake is smelling a little more baked each day. With that in mind, a young man's fancies turn increasingly toward thoughts of down-ballot races, and the importance of preserving our Senate majority and eating into the Republican edge in the House, which raises the question of where to contribute.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
