I thought I had thought through what Mitt Romney did yesterday pretty well. But every time I think I have a handle on it, I read a new diary which points out some other act of ridiculous foolishness.
Here's the lis of unpatriotic acts so far:
1. He implied our commander in chief was a disgrace while an attack was underway and developing against United States' citizens;
2. His top surrogate at the RNC said the Commander in Chief sympathizes with the attackers, again while an attack is underway and developing;
3. He failed to call on the Country to come together and unify as is our strong tradition. Here's how Presidents Reagan and Bush reacted to President Carter's failed attempt to rescue American hostages in Iran:
"This is the time for us as a nation and a people to stand united,' - Ronald Reagan, Republican candidate, after president Carter's botched mission to save US hostages.
"I unequivocally support the president of the United States -- no ifs, ands or buts -- and it certainly is not a time to try to go one-up politically. He made a difficult, courageous decision," - George H.W. Bush, a candidate at the same time;
4. He distorted the factual history of the attacks to the American people to try and make our Commander in Chief look bad;
5. He preempted the President's statement to the Nation about this ongoing crisis by staging a press conference one half hour before the President. However foolish the press conference was, it nonetheless deprived people of the opportunity to be properly informed of an ongoing attack. He, in essence, purposefully stole the President's thunder;
6. He stood up for the first amendment rights of a lunatic fringe which associates with people who have a successful history of inciting violence. While first amendment rights are fundamental, they were hardly an issue. During an attack, Romney sided with the rights of this violence inciting lunatic fringe, rather than with our Americans under attack;
7. He criticized American public servants operating in dangerous and lethal zones and who were under serious threat for their word choices in tweets they sent out to try and stabilize an escalating and dangerous situation.
That's what I've got so far. What else did this asshole do?
