You may know Foster Friess from his recent sexist remarks about women and aspirin:
“You know, back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraception. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn’t that costly.”Friess is a GOP mega-donor, and is a primary funder propping up Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller.
Friess, a Christian philanthropist, is the leading benefactor of the Red White and Blue Fund, the independent group backing Santorum, according to the New York Times. ...
But surely having the longtime Republican donor play sugar daddy for both a top presidential candidate and Carlson’s website creates a perception problem?
“I have zero interest in what people think about that,” Carlson says. ...
Friess, who has gone hunting with Dick Cheney has sent out fundraising letters to fight the Obamacare legislation and calls much of the information on global warming “distorted and manipulated.”
He told me by e-mail in 2010 that he was delighted to be subsidizing the venture run by Carlson and Neil Patel, a former Cheney aide who was nominated by the Bush White House to run the National Telecommunications and Information Administration but never confirmed. “Tucker and Neil present a huge opportunity to re-introduce civility to our political discourse,” Friess said. “They are mature, sensible men who are very thoughtful and experienced with pleasant senses of humor and do not take themselves too seriously. They want to make a contribution to the dialogue that occurs in our country that has become too antagonistic, nasty and hostile. . . .
Friess is also an advocate of keeping his democracy-killing big-dollar legalized-bribery donations private:
“A lot of people are intimidated, very intimidated, because they could have repercussions from any government, not just an Obama administration, but a Republican,” he said. “They can say, ‘This guy gave a lot of money against us, so let’s not give him this contract,’ or, ‘Let’s slow up the FDA approval for his drug.’ I believe there’s a tension there, so I think people ought to be able to give to [501c4s] and keep that private.”But an interesting item about Friess that has escaped most media attention: he has his own anti-Muslim hate film. I don't know if he made the film, paid for it, commissioned it or whatever. But at a minimum, he definitely introduced it and put that introduction on youtube:
I regret I do not have the time right now to transcribe, but it is the usual "radical Muslim" fear-mongering rigamarole. He wants you to know he's an "ordinary citizen" like you. Remember when Churchill tried to warn us about Hitler? Now you need to be a Churchill and warn everyone about radical Muslim jihadism! Here, let me direct you to this website where you can learn more about this jihadist threat. Radical Muslims want to destroy Israel, and "kill as many Jews as possible!" They want to remove all American influence from the Middle East! And destroy all secular governments and replace them with Sharia law! And plant the flag of Islam in every corner of the globe!
(This is no way reminds me of the agenda of the radical American Taliban Tea Party.)
Will Radical DVDs, Tied to Campaign, Arrive in Millions of Homes Again?Tucker Carlson needs to make an official comment as to Friess' involvement with this anti-Muslim video/DVD/film, and his involvement with its distribution in millions of newspapers in 2008.
One of the long-forgotten episodes from the 2008 campaign involves the sudden appearance of anti-Islam (and basically pro-McCain) DVDs inserted within millions of daily newspapers around the country and delivered to home subscribers. Of course, one has to watch for this sort of thing again in the coming days and weeks. I write about it in my book Why Obama Won but here is an excerpt from my original article at Edtior & Publisher exactly four years ago today. UPDATE: See video at bottom--it's the intro to the DVD, and web ad, starring none other than major GOP funder Foster Friess!
Importantly, is Friess in any way involved with the current film that is causing lethal riots throughout the Middle East?
