Opened our Shelby Bottom String Band Facebook page today and saw this comment about our Obama Back Again music video. "What a bunch of socialist communist redneck hicks! You are the epitome of what people think of Tennesseans ...low life uneducated hicks!"
OK. We get it. This guy doesn't like our music or our message. But boy does he have it wrong on the uneducated hicks part.
I won't give you bios on the other band members (one of us opened for the Beatles and played with Emmylou Harris for ten years...) but here's a bit about me. Born and raised in San Francisco by a union dad. Graduate of Indiana University School of Music where I played classical piano. Executive Director of TN Alliance for Progress, a organization that is on the cutting edge of environmental and economic justice work in Tennessee.
I play bluegrass and old time fiddle. Why? Because I love its simplicity and honesty, because it is the music of the common people, because it gives me and my band an opportunity to talk about real people and real issues. Because so many poor and middle class people in Tennessee vote against their own economic interests. We know our music will never be mainstream corporate country music and that's okay with us.
As for the guy who made the above comments? We've banned him from our Facebook page. Here's a link to Obama Back Again. Sweet revenge? Get this video out across the country! http://www.youtube.com/...
