Years ago I worked construction with a guy I'll describe as "looks like a redneck". The day's discussion was going along normal when out of the blue he gave me that "look". The "look" that told me what he was about to say was serious, off topic but still serious, to him. I stopped, looked his way. He cocked his head slightly and said "we put a man on the moon". "We put a man on the moon" he repeated. I didn't know of this interest. He seemed truly impressed with that fact. The enormity of that project captured his wonder and respect.
As we worked to assemble a new home there were other Americans who could assemble a ship to reach the moon. This impressed him.
Ten years older and from the time when model A fords were almost new he was awed. It shows you never know another one's mind. Then I thought of my father's life in this text. Born 4 years after the Wright brother's flight, to a man on the moon and 747s a common sight.
