Yeah, I am a legend in my own mind
On Friday,
in a 27 page decision, by Dane County Circuit Court Judge Juan B. Colas struck down provisions of Wisconsin's Act 10. His striking down of these provisions essentially restores collective bargaining for public sector workers in Wisconsin. Obviously the Republicans will appeal this decision; however, instead of taking defeat like the manly men they say they are and saying something along the lines of, "We feel the court made the wrong decision and we will appeal," we get the collection of sore loser quotes:
First off, we have Governor Scott Walker himself,
"The people of Wisconsin clearly spoke on June 5th. Now, they are ready to move on. Sadly, a liberal activist judge in Dane County wants to go backward and take away the lawmaking responsibilities of the Legislature and the governor,"
Evidently Gov. Walker skipped that day of American government class about the judicial branch being a separate and equal branch of government, part of the whole check and balance thing. This ruling is a check and balance against unbridled power in the executive and legislative branch. Judge Colas is not legislating from the bench. He is merely saying that the legislature passed and the Governor signed, an unconstitutional bill into law.
State Representative Robin Vos (R-Burlington), who's wife is under investigation for voter fraud, had this to say,
"It's no surprise that in the fantasy world of a judge in Dane County, he can substitute his will for the will of the people as expressed through the Legislature and the recall."
Now, I live in Dane County, this not a fantasy world and quite honestly I am sick and tired of the Madison and Dane County bashing. If Rep. Vos would talk to many of the public sector workers that live and work in the Madison and Dane County area, where the largest concentration of public workers in the state live and work, he might have a clue about the damage Act 10 has done; however, in his eyes those of us who live here are in a fantasy world and have no idea what the "real world" is like.
Senator Glenn Grothmann (R-Idiot) stated that the repeal would be, "would be a disaster for schools."
Evidently Sen. Grothmann has not been paying attention to our schools...teacher layoffs and retirements are at an all time high. At the University level it is even worse. You cannot retain good teachers and professors if you do not want to pay them competitive wages and benefits and treat them like crap.
The audacity of Republican politicians never ceases to amaze me. They scream that they are the most patriotic, most American; however, one court case goes against them and our judicial branch should not meddle into affairs they know nothing about, like the law. The words, Liberal Activist Judge should be struck from our nation's vocabulary and we must call out terms like that as being un-American and that whoever said them needs a remedial civics lesson (I am looking at you Governor Walker). As for the fantasy world, Rep. Vos is the one who lives there. How removing collective bargaining rights from public servants balances the budget is beyond me. Act 10 was, and still is nothing more than a naked power grab.
