Orange Squiggle of Down-Ticket Power

EDR compiles, describes and links election related diaries for down-ticket races through the closing months of election seasons. Down-ticket means any non-Presidential race.

This group was formed by the producers of a front page diary series that rescued election related diaries in 2006, 2008 and 2010. 2012 marks the first election since Daily Kos was born that there is blog devoted to election coverage - Daily Kos Elections.
Election Diary Rescue is proud to be a part of this project.

EDR chronicles the passion, power and effectiveness of political engagement and shines a light on candidates and issues that might be missed during an action-packed election cycle. It gives quick access to races, hopefully inspires people to write aPbout contests that interest them, and has become an archive for thousands of election related diaries over the years. For the archive of this project, founded by sidinny, please go to our EDR closing diary for the 2010 election which links all the rescued diaries since 2006.

Format, Schedule & Tags:

Diarists can help the EDR mining team by identifying the race in the diary title, for example: (FL-14) or (GA-Gov) or (NY-Sen). New this year, you can write your first sentence or two as the synopsis you would like to see in the EDR description.

EDR's schedule for mining diaries is noon to noon. Our publishing schedule is in the evening. That means for example if you post your diary at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, we will include it in the EDR list in Thursday evening's post. If you publish your diary at 11:59 am on Thursday, it will be in the diary collection for Thursday evening as well.

[Var-Polling] Daily Kos Elections Polling Wrap: Why trying to parse political polls is sometimes a fool's errand by Steve Singiser - Today, without question, was a day in the political data world that was both quieter (less than half the polling load) and carried less shock value (read: no NBC/Marist polls) than what readers saw in Thursday's edition of the Wrap.

General

Hell to Pay is back! by Joan McCarter - "The premise will be that every week, the winger opponents of our Orange to Blue candidates will have proven themselves unable to have gone a whole seven days without saying or doing something so egregious that civilized people will retch at the result--and we'll actually have fun smacking these people down by opening our wallets to our own candidates."

NC GOTV Women's Version by Marihilda - We have a terrific effort going in North Carolina to get out the women's vote. It involves hand writing a letter to targeted women voters--the ones who are infrequent or new voters. We are urging them to vote and, of course, vote with us on November 6. We include all the early voting information, candidate info and we give them a flip card to help them through the judiciary races as well as the straight ticket which because of redistricting is confusing.

The week in the War on Voting: Pennsylvania Supreme Court hears appeal in photo-ID ruling by Meteor Blades - MB offers the blow-by-blow of arguments from both sides before the PA Supreme Court, Dems are still 1 judge's vote shy of the needed 4. Roundup of voter suppression efforts in Iowa, New Hampshire, Florida, Colorado and Virginia as well.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
