Connecticut Democrats are fighting back against the WWE's efforts to remove any traces of racy footage from the WWE that could hurt Republican Senate candidate, Linda McMahon (R), like it did back in 2010:

On Monday, state Democrats re-posted a video they assembled during McMahon’s 2010 run that includes WWE clips showing simulated sexual assault, necrophilia and other theatrical depravity. Accompanying the montage was a voiceover of McMahon, explaining that the company’s product was fun, soap-opera entertainment, and that in recent years they had cleaned it up for a PG rating.

But by Monday afternoon, the video was pulled. - TPM, 9/17/12

The WWE didn't even contact Connecticut Democratic Party officials to even try to accuse them of any sort of violation.  They just had the video removed.  Elizabeth Larkin, the state Democratic party communications director, had this to say:

“Based on the ‘fair use exception’ under the copyright law, we believe it appropriate to use this information to inform voters about Linda McMahon’s qualifications for the United States Senate,” said Larkin. - TPM, 9/17/12
Even the WWE knows the damage the racy footage did to McMahon's campaign and here's their excuse:
“Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced,” WWE said last week in defending its decision to remove the content. “This damages the corporate reputation of our company. WWE is well within its rights to protect its intellectual property for fair use.” - TPM 9/17/12
The McMahon campaign claims that it was not involved in the WWE corporation's decision to pull the footage.  I wouldn't put any stock into how true that statement is but I can tell you that it's very clear the WWE is trying to buy this race for the old CEO.  Luckily for us, we have an amazing opportunity to win this seat and we have a terrific progressive Democrat running for that seat.  His name is Chris Murphy and he needs our help more than ever.  Please help fuel his campaign so he can fight back.  Give Connecticut the real Democratic Senator they deserve.  Don't let the 1% buy Joe Lieberman's seat:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Wonderful work! (4+ / 0-)

You have really been cranking out some wonderful diaries.  I don't know how you manage to write so many, much less do the quality of work you're doing.

vile in its depiction of violence?  I could nevr understand how people just loved wrestling and the more unreal the better.  you bet she is trying the best to distance herself.

Sheen ran for public office, would the Rethugs be justified in publicizing his movie clips? Clint Eastwood was elected mayor in Carmel, CA, but no one thought he'd be driving around a la "Dirty Harry" shooting under-performing pot-hole fillers...

I feel that this "issue" sucks. To lina, the WWE is not "fake"; it is semi-scripted, improvisational entertainment.  As such, it is irrelevant to a political argument. If Emma Watson decided to change her citizenship just to run against Christine O'Donnell, would we have two candidates proclaiming, "I am not a Witch..."

My hope is that some day, otherwise qualified sex-workers can be openly elected to office. That day will not come in my lifetime, and this WWE distraction proves it. If Linda McMahon was a progressive, Occupy-movement capital "D" Democrat, would that change your opinion of her previous performances?

Full disclosure: I thought long and hard before I went into porn-performing; I was/am a long time political junkie. I knew that I would never again be able to run for any elective office and, even now, 20+ years later, I don't appear on even B-roll if I can help it.

I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves. -John Wayne (-9.00,-8.86)

...the racy and trashy parts of the WWE from the Web, they cannot whitewash the WWE dead who number in the dozens, with Chris Benoit being the perpetrator of perhaps the most tragic incident (murder/suicide) involving a current/former WWE superstar, the result of (when last I heard) multiple concussions and multiple drugs, including steroids, prompting all sorts of mental conditions involving concussions and drug use, including roid rage.

  •  This race should be a walkover for Chris (0+ / 0-)

were it not for his unbelievable lapses in judgement in ignoring bank non-payment notices and his equally unbelievable attempts to explain everything away by saying 'he forgot" to make rent and  mortgage payments.

McMahon, of course, has seized on this and is relentlessly bombarding the public with TV ads on the matter.

Chris was slow off the mark in this race.  I think he and his people thought they could run a high-level campaign against McMahon like Dick Blumenthal had run two years earlier.

Sadly, Chris Murphy is no Dick Blumenthal.  He is a three-term Congressman with little state-wide name recognition and no real legislative accomplishments to his name.  He has let McMahon define him and is now trying to get back off the canvas before she body-slams him on November 6.

I've sent Chris some money, not that I think he's the greatest candidate ever, but the thought of McMahon sitting in the U.S. Senate gives me a tummy ache.
