nannyboz' quilt
nannyboz' quilt

Our friend, earicicle, has breast cancer.  In spite of all hopes to the contrary, she hasn't well tolerated the treatments she's been given -- in fact, they've made her very ill.  But on top of her physical misery, earicicle has greatly suffered from a sense of isolation.  She's not currently living near family or friends and this has made her recovery all the more a challenge.  This, coupled with the fact that she is a fiercely independent person who takes pleasure in doing things for herself, brings her a great frustration in feeling so unwell.  I am hoping that a community quilt will give earicicle a big lift, a cuddly reminder that people do care about her.  And that will help her heal.

What is a community quilt?  It is a quilt into which are stitched the loving and supportive sentiments of people.  Leave a message for earicicle in the comments below and I will transcribe it in archival ink on muslin.  My sister and I will then sew it into a colorful quilt for earicicle -- something she can cry into when she is hurting, something she can hug when she's feeling alone, something she can rest under knowing that her friends care about her.

It takes time and material to make one of these quilts.  If you can contribute toward earicle's quilt, here is a PayPal button -- or message me for an address if you prefer a check.  Some people cannot afford to donate -- and that is okay!  If you can spot for another, it would be great.  $10/message is suggested.

Here is what we are currently working on.  Raina's quilt top will be done today, except for its border.  Her border and backing fabric should be arriving tomorrow -- so her quilt will be finished in a few days.  Ann is working on a special medallion for llbear's quilt.  And I expect to put up a follow up diary for Alma's quilt later in the week -- if we get 18 more message's for her, we can make a twin size quilt for her.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
