I spent two week on the Mainland recently during both the Republican and Democratic conventions. Most of the time I was surrounded by conservatives. It was fun to blunt their Fox talking points but something strange occurred time and time again.
Almost to a man or woman, at some point they would say in a low, conspiracy laden voice, "Something is going to happen."
I asked a few times what was going to happen. They had no idea but they were dead sure something was going to happen.
After thinking about it for a while I believe these people are scared to death. Scared of the black man in the White House. Scared of brown people in the malls. Scared of the 47%. Scared of the present. Scared of the future. Scared of science.
They live in gated communities. They live in remote areas where they've set up self contained environments and are prepared to defend them. The own gun safes that are stuffed with weapons and ammunition.
It would be interesting to see what a psychologist would make of what appears to be mass hysteria.
I feel sorry them.
