First of all, since I’m new to Kos, I’d like to explain my motives: Most of what I read on Kos about Republicans and right-wingers I agree with so I don’t feel that I have much to add to that part of the political discussion. I will mostly confine my posts to some tough love for our liberal and left-wing friends.
My rant today is about so-called “Washington” gridlock or “Washington” intransigence.
I believe that anyone who takes the trouble to write about the current state of affairs should at least be specific about who is intransigent, who is causing gridlock. We all know the answer to that: It’s largely the Republicans. An aspect of Republican propaganda is that they would really like for all of us to be frustrated with “Washington” in general because this deflects pressure from the Republicans.
Unfortunately, many news outlets that we all think of as at least moderately progressive fall into the Republican trap. I’ve seen it on Huffington Post, I’ve seen it in the New York Times and in many other publications that should know better.
How can we as progressives foster progress for our issues if we cannot even be specific about the stumbling blocks to achieving that progress?
I think we should all urge our “friends” to please be more specific about who is opposing progress.
