Lost in the uproar following Romney's writing off half the country, saying that they are not his job, is an interesting tell about his own view of his candidacy.
There was a time when men (at the time it was only men) campaigned for president with slogans like "a chicken in every pot!"
Now we have drawbridge Republicans- "I've got mine, you can simply die."
All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. That that's an entitlement.
The notion that any human could believe, and then say out loud- and that those listening would agree- that health care, food and housing are not basic human rights is astounding.
Food for heaven's sake! Who could believe that food is not a basic right? Are there no poor houses? And who would say it out loud? and who would listen to such a message without walking out in disgust? But I digress.
Romney writes off the 47% he mistakenly believe pay no taxes because he cannot possibly convince them that more tax cuts are a sufficient reason to vote for him.
These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn't connect. So he'll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean, that's what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
In other words, he doesn't have any other reason for anyone to vote for him. No ideas other than tax cuts. Nada. Zilch. If you don't want tax cuts, you will vote for Obama.
No foreign policy which might attract your vote. No jobs agenda. No social compact. No strong on the border plan. No nothing. Tax cuts. That's the whole shebang.
