As many of you know, I am attending the "Blue Out" game this Saturday at Penn State. I posted a diary about it last month entitled:
Tree Climbers: September 22nd "Blue Out" game at Beaver Stadium
As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and having attended the Jerry Sandusky trial, I have been looking forward to this game, commending Penn State on their continued focus on the larger issue of childhood sexual abuse and taking time to recognize victims.
Penn State is the only one who is standing up and being accountable. Rodney Erickson, the Board of Trustees, Faculty, Staff and Students are not only handling this with grace, they are actively raising awareness of child sexual abuse and putting their money where their mouth is.
While I have been absent from here due to work contraints, I continue to advocate on Penn State and State College websites for victims of childhood sexual abuse and to help keep the conversation focused on preventing future kids from knowing what far too many of us know.
Penn State self-identified alumni, fans and students continue blaming everyone else for what has occurred. They blame the Freeh report, they blame the BOT, they blame Erickson, they blame the NCAA, they blame the media, they blame "haters" with the ever present line of "you must not have gotten into PSU" - but fail to see where the blame truly lies - with the people who knew (or suspected) a child had been hurt and chose not to do anything about it.
And they wonder why people are looking at them incredulously...
Below the jump is just a few instances of personal attacks I've received in my advocacy and there is also a capture of a thread from the BWI Rivals message board from this morning with posts now ridiculing the Blue Out Game.
I will warn you that some of this could be triggering.

Roxine, you continually demonstrate how a person can type many words and say nothing of any value. You may actually be a victim or work in the field and/or whatever it is you what to claim so others will feel sorry for you and not point out the senselessness of your postings, but enough already. We all feel sorry for you and we all feel sorry for the victims of Sandusky and all other crimes. But, that's no reason to convict 2 men before their trial and that's no reason to convict 2 other men who have not even been charged with any crime.

Roxine, you want justice for the victims with indictments and convictions, even though their only faults may be errors of judgement.
However, when you had first hand proof that people involved with your case did not do the right thing and report your accusations to the police, you've never pursued having them brought to judgement.
I find that disingenuous.

Roxine- they say a picture is worth a thousand words. I personally do not care about your history, name, etc or whether you see the world through the eyes of a young victim of child molestation. But what I do care about are people, like you, with a personal agenda, however noble you may think it be, using the unfortunate JS situation(he was the only one who had his private parts in all of the wrong places) to tear down good people and to go out of your way to cause harm and damage to PSU and the greater PSU community. Sometimes, very good people do what they think is right under difficult circumstances, in real time(and not in 20 -20 hindsight). It is very easy to play the blame game. I submit that the suffering, anger, pain etc, etc incurred by the greater PSU community over the last year far exceeds the suffering, anger, pain suffered by 8-10 boys, soon to become millionaires. It hurts up our a.. too.

Oh God, I just learned why it is a Blue Out and want to throw up.

Please tell me other schools are doing something similar like breast cancer awareness (pink). I'm sure this admin will want to make a Blue Out a yearly thing to keep the spotlight on the story and morale down.9/19 10:33 AM | IP: Logged

If we happen to win the yearly blue-out games, the win will be immediately vacated as a reminder. This was one of the recommendations in the Freeh Report that went unnoticed.9/19 10:40 AM | IP: Logged

The "move on" is only with respect to looking into what BOT members knew and their behavior. Otherwise- there is no "move on" as we will be reminded by these same idiots in charge with moments of silence, blue ribbons on helmets, and blue outs forever. If they think people are upset at them now- give it 2-3 years.

they (we know who they are) keep preaching and want everyone to move on, yet they continue to ensure the football team is the stepchild in reminding everyone what happened and how guilty they are. Why can't anyone see this?9/19 10:47 AM | IP: Logged

how we are working so hard to be good citizens etc was making me ill. I won't apologize for anything. Penn State is a great school with great academics and athletics. Great programs and great kids. Make the football game a great experience, not a "We are Sorry" fest.
You don't like what happened.....blame Jerry Sandusky....he is the homo pervert. Blame the Second Mile who couldn't control him. Blame the parents who, while they might be disadvantaged, basically turned their kids over to strangers with little follow-up.Never shake a baby.....never.9/19 10:53 AM | IP: Logged

We created the pro-molestation culture, so we're all guilty and must atone.

There is very little difference between raping young boys and cheering for a football team, thereby placing the team above all other values. If I were the DA, I'd arrest everyone who enters the stadium on Saturday and charge them with conspiracy to commit rape.9/19 10:58 AM | IP: Logged
This is so much bigger than Penn State. But they continue to shoot themselves in the foot by failing to accept the fact that they, too, were let down by the very same men who let down these young boys.
It is very hard to see our heros fall - but we've got to stop blaming everyone else and start being accountable for ourselves, our actions, how we conduct ourselves and treat others, and for our children.
Children cannot protect themselves - so I will proudly wear blue at the Blue-Out game on Saturday to stand for all victims and survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Sorry for my rant - it's just been a bit disheartening the last few days as people seem to be forgetting the true victims in all of this - children.
