Much hot air has been expelled from the mouths of candidates for President, Vice President, Congressperson, etc. They all profess to have the answers our economy needs to "recover." The other thing they all have in common is that not one of them, has addressed the reason for this "stubborn recession" we are experiencing. I have written letters to my Senator, my representative, even President Obama, regarding the real reason for our economic woes, and none of them will talk about it, at least they will not talk about it in a reasonable manner.
Do you remember when Bill Clinton was pushing for NAFTA, and Ross Perot said that if NAFTA was signed into law there would be a gigantic sucking sound caused by U.S. jobs going to Mexico. Ross Perot nailed it. But of course NAFTA was only the first of many so called "Free Trade Agreements" that sucked jobs out of our economy.
These trade agreements have not only cost us jobs, but they have cost the United States untold billions, perhaps trillions of dollars in lost taxes, and huge trade deficits.
When I pointed this out to U.S. Representative Adam Kinsinger, he said, "but we have a trade surplus with Australia." He was correct. We do have a trade surplus with Australia, and nearly no one else. The reason we have a trade surplus with Australia is because their minimum wage is $15.00 per hour. Their people have money to spend on goods and services, unlike a lot of U.S. citizens.
President Obama and Senator Dick Durbin sang nearly the same song, about how free trade agreements are good for the U.S. and will create jobs. These trade agreements do create jobs, just not in this country.
I have a very stong fear that our economy will never recover to what it was prior to NAFTA. Since no one running for high office will even acknowledge the problem, how likely is it they will act on a solution?
