I am gone for 3 days..

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

I will be out of town for the next three days and will not have computer access, so I am scheduling IAN diaries to go up automatically during that time.

The hotel we're going to doesn't offer WiFi, even though they charge a fortune for the rooms. I've noticed the more expensive the hotel the less likely they are to offer WiFi to their guests. Perhaps it's because they think the people won't notice the additional charges for WiFi and such.

But I do notice.

And I won't pay them.  But I don't have a choice in hotels this weekend, I have to take what I'm provided since the event happens there and there's not another convenient hotel to choose.

I will leave you with cute puppy pictures.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Even hotels charging a whole lot also charge extra for Wi Fi (just check out the hotels for NN 2013 (only the farthest hotel gives it free).  It sucks.  I thought I might be able to go next year because I'll have Social Security to supplement my pension so I checked.  I use a desktop puter, so I don't know why I recall about the wi fi I wouldn't be able to use anyway.

Just posted a diary about something posted yesterday that got too few eyeballs.

When I was in Louisville last summer, the hotel didn't offer wi-fi but the bagel place next door did.  I sat out on their patio morning and evening in the 100+ heat to log on.  It wasn't as convenient as being in my room, but the price was right.  :-)

We'll be thinking of you, and we'll keep everything battened down and running here. I'm looking forward to next week's diaries and an account of how your weekend went!

Caedy got off to work ok today. Her mom picked her up and drove her in so she didn't have to walk on that ankle this morning, hopefully that will help her make it through the day. It's definitely a sprain only, but she's going to be in pain by tonight, then she'll have the weekend to rest it. If they stick her in back cash she can sit and work as well which will be helpful. Hopefully the understanding manager is on duty today so she can do that.

So I'm going to save up my own spoons so I can handle dinner and dishes tonight. Hopefully my body will cooperate with that plan . I'll commandeer the kids to help as well.

Draco put in two applications yesterday. Winn Dixie told him they weren't hiring, despite evidence to the contrary. But they also had a lot of people there in suits walking around with clip boards, so it may have been an OSHA or corporate inspection day as it wasn't even a manager that told him that but a harassed looking customer service worker. If he doesn't hear from them by next week he'll go up again. The other two places told him they'd give his application to the hiring manager so we'll see.

Lots of hotels, and campgrounds have WiFi hot spots.
Getting really chilly in Chicago this weekend.  High 50's for a high.  It's soup time.
Have a good weekend Noddy, and everyone else have a great day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

On deadline and already starting to panic but this is nothing new, so one busy day coming up.  I hope all of you have a much more peaceful day than I'm facing.

Yesterday, after trying to snuffle up every bitter-nut hickory nut on my lawn, I had the three deer just resting in the grass.

I now know why there are no nuts on the ground.  They don't bother the black walnuts, and I have been scooping up some of them for winter.  They are hard to crack and the outside will darken the skin on the hands for days. (Old English furniture scratch cover is made from these babies.)

The hardest nuts I ever cracked were macadamias, they just wouldn't hold still. (Fabulous kitty toys!)

Seems to be my theme for today....nuts!

Unfortunately I spent most of my shift on my feet, upfront.  The manager on duty however, was cool and I could linger a bit as needed, and ultimately helped order take in backcash until I went home about an hour early because we were DEAD!

So, I am home now, and relaxing, need to take an ultram, but not just yet.
