Remember way back in 2000, when Rick Lazio walked over to Hillary Clinton, and demanding that she sign a "pledge," shoved it in her face? (about 1:00 in the clip):
That was it for "nice guy" Rick. That moment (ranked as one of the ten "worst debate moments ever" by the Washington Post) ended not only his bid for Senator of New York, but also the rest of his political career.
Last night, Scott Brown entered Lazio territory right off the bat, with his response to the moderator's very first question about whether "character" was an issue for Warren in the race (a cheap shot by the moderator, who knew it was an opening for the "Indian" question):
I think what you're referring to was Professor Warren claimed that she -- was a native American,a person of color. As you can see she's not.
This idiotic statement approaches Lazio territory. Let's change it a little --
President Obama claims that he is "half white." As you can see, he's not.
Brown's primary appeal is that he is a "nice guy" and therefore a non-threatening Republican. This dickish ploy is a sign of desperation, especially when polls have shown that, despite the best efforts of rags like the Boston Herald, the issue has not made a difference in the race.
So Scott -- Keep it up and maybe you'll qualify for the Full Lazio.
