If you want to know why the traditional media is dead, read this article.
Tax Credit in Doubt, Wind Power Industry Is Withering
"A campaign wedge issue"
"Galvanized Republicans in Congress against it"
Are these statements true? Surely all NYT reporters substantiate all claims made in their writing. And the editors review as well. Right?
Or not.
Here is a letter from Jerry Moran (R-KS), a "Republican in Congress" (by definition), signed by five other "Republicans in Congress," (Brown, Boozman, Grassley, Hoeven, Thune) in support of extending the production tax credit.
Sens. Moran, Udall Call for Extension of Wind Energy Tax Credit
This was difficult for me, as a non-NYT reporter to find, since I had to look on the website of a "Republican in Congress" to find it. Plus, the letter offers the added benefit of "bipartisan support" for legislation in Congress! Not mentioned in the NYT piece.
Here is Gov. Brownback (Republican, albeit not in Congress) - in favor -
Brownback supports tax credits for wind industry
Here is Gov. Branstad (Republican, also not in Congress) - in favor, and interested in educating Romney on value of wind tax credit - Branstad wants to educate Romney on wind tax credit
Here is Gov. Scott (Republican, not in Congress) - with no position but who wants more info on value of wind tax credit - Gov. Scott seeks help for airline, wind-energy workers losing their jobs
I only mention these three because the NYT made a point of mentioning wind industry job losses in Kansas, Iowa, Florida - the three states they govern.
So I guess it is a campaign wedge issue insofar as it has created a wedge between Republicans, both in and not in Congress (this distinction was not mentioned by the NYT).
Also, I noticed a job posting at the NYT:
Position - Reporter
Responsibilities - Write anything you want with as little effort as possible
Qualifications - None
UPDATE: Additional Congressional Republicans in favor of extension (at the request of commenters):
Yes, this Sen. Moran letter was only signed by five. Here's more (some reported by the NYT itself!):
Here's Pat Roberts and Steve King (!) in support:
GOP is at odds over wind tax credit
That article also mentions that eight of nine members of the Colorado Congressional delegation support extension, meaning at least three more Republicans.
Here's Rick Berg (R-ND) in support:
Uncertain skies for wind energy industry
Here's Denny Rehberg (R-MT) in favor:
Tax credit key to developing Montana’s wind energy
Here's Kristi Noem (R-SD) in favor:

Here's Tom Latham (R-IA) in favor:

Here's Tom Coburn (R-OK) in favor (at a lower rate):

Here's Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) in favor:Senate Panel Passes Extension of Wind Energy Tax Credit
