In their fist debate of the 2012, in Columbia, election Todd Atkins demurred, McCaskill pounced and Libertarian Jonathan Dine got off the best zinger...
Speaking of Akin Dine said...
“He sits on the science committee yet he fails to understand basic 8th grade biology.”
If any are unaware of the dynamics of this race, McCaskill's Senate seat was pretty much considered toast until her hand picked opponent "Tea-Party Todd" said in an interview with a St. Louis TV station that victims of “legitimate” rape rarely become pregnant because their bodies are able to “shut that whole thing down.” He used the medically incorrect claim to defend his belief that abortion should be illegal in all circumstances.
Since that remark Akin has bled support , so much so that today intrade gives him only a 32.1% chance of winning.
Against this backdrop the candidates met to air their views at The Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia, Mo.
It didn't take long for the moderators to zero in on the damning remark or for a buck naked Akin to shriek and grab for his housecoat...
“I don’t believe that this election overall is about talk,” Akin said. “It’s really about two visions of what America is.”
Duh, not so much, McCaskill replied...
"He’s apologized for those comments but they say a lot about how he views things,” she said. “It’s not what he said that’s the problem; it’s what he believes that’s the problem."
But Libertarian Jonathan Dine also got off another good line...
“I promise to keep the Republicans out of your bedroom and the Democrats out of your wallet.”
Dude keeps talkin' like that this could turn into a McCaskill/Dine death-match.
Meanwhile the Rethugs got a real problem as Tuesday next is the deadline for Todd to pull out of the race and you can bet Claire has been saving her nickles and dimes to carpet-bomb his ass after it's past.
And of course, right on time, the ever batshit crazy Jim DeMint urges National Republican Senatorial Committee campaign headmaster John Cornyn to renege on his vow to keep party money out of the race...
“I’m going to look at the race and I would encourage [NRSC Chairman] John Cornyn [(R-Texas)] to look at all races where Republicans have a chance to win,” DeMint said. “We have some resources we can put in races, and we’re looking where else we want to invest.”
Go ahead punks, make our day. You send so much as a quarter to Tea-Party Todd and we Dems will festoon each of your candidates in close states with his crazy ass quotes.
You feelin' lucky?
