Other than having the bird shot at us by a little girl riding by in a car, my wife and I, plus about about 15 others enjoyed staging a street corner rally at a busy intersection of Merritt Island, Florida today.
I'm not sure what inspired that little girl -- who looked to be seven or eight -- to do what she did, but other than that, overall it was a very positive experience. We expected to get jeered by adults, and we did, but not by a child. The expression on that child's face was one of pure hate. One of the folks working the corner with me said, "That's sad, but you know where she gets that attitude from."
The car the little girl was riding in wasn't exactly a Jag or a BMW either. It was a beat up old Chevy...suggesting that her parents probably aren't among the country club set that Mitt Romney cares about. They're probably part of the 47% that Romney despises and has no concern for. I'll never understand why poor and lower middle class people of any race can support any GOP candidate...especially Mitt Romney. It boggles my mind. But like my friend implied, that little girl's attitude probably comes straight from her lowly-informed parents.
But like I said that was about the only downer of the day. All of us were very thankful, energized and fairly surprised at the number of people of all races, ages and genders who went by honking their horns as a show of support for the President's reelection. Those honks gave us hope that President Obama will carry Florida again. I'm certainly going to keep working for his re-election.
If and when he gets re-elected, that little girl and her family will probably benefit in spite of themselves and those like them, whether they want to believe it or not.
