There will be a HUGE free clinic at the Los Angeles Sports Arena this week.

Services will include medical, dental and vision for residents from all over Southern California.

Hosted by LA-based nonprofit Care Harbor, it will take place from Thursday Sept. 27 to Sunday, Sept. 30. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Patients must have a wristband. Care Harbor will hand out wristbands on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Sports Arena on Monday starting at 1 p.m. The parking lot opens at 7 a.m. (Warning-- it's likely to be HOT this week, so bring an umbrella, water, and wear sunscreen.)

You can choose which day to attend. The wristbands are not transferable.

If the patient is a child, the wristband will be given to the parent, who must bring the child to the clinic.

The clinic also connects patients with follow-up care in the community.

Care Harbor is looking for volunteers, both general and medical, to participate in the clinic. More info here.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I am overwhelmingly saddened by the need for it.

Dammit, we are one of the richest countries in the world, and we still refuse to provide healthcare to the people who have worked so hard to produce that wealth.

  •  I went to the RAM (0+ / 0-)

clinic at this same arena.   It was held in May 2010 and the weather was mild, but with this heat in LA I just cannot handle it.  The last time I waited 7 hours in a line, standing the whole time with about 4000 to 5000 people.   The line stretched farther than I could see and snaked around the Arena 3 times before you could get to the front.

It's too exhausting.   I'm sure there will be many folks camping out for this - the need is just so great.  People had to be turned away at the RAM clinic and that even ran a few days longer than this one will.

So, so sad that this country has to have these clinics and that so many are hurting without proper medical care.  Betcha the local news here will cover this for all of 6 seconds and then get distracted by a shiny object and move on to something else -drive by shootings, hit and runs, brush fires etc.
