In Obama Campaign Releases First Ad Targeting Mitt Romney's '47 Percent', we learn that President Obama's campaign is not letting Mitt Romney's personal tax situation drop, but instead is focusing a much sharper attack in a new 30 second ad.
CHICAGO -- President Barack Obama's campaign is launching its first television advertisement targeting Mitt Romney's comments about Americans who don't pay income taxes, arguing the GOP nominee should stop attacking others on taxes and "come clean" on his own.
The ad signaled that Obama will keep making Romney's personal finances a campaign issue even after the Republican released a second year of information about his taxes. The campaign will start running the ad Monday in Ohio, where Romney will campaign this week.
This 30-second ad opens with the segment of Mitt Romney's now famous 47% percent statement and him saying, "My job is not to worry about those people," Romney says in the video, which was taped without his knowledge."
A narrator in the Obama ad responds, "Isn't it the president's job to worry about everyone?"
The ad also points out that Mitt Romney pays a lower effective rate than most Americans, something every American can relate to. Why should super rich people like Mitt Romney pay a lower rate than average working Americans? Last night, on 60 Minutes, Romney defended this rate as fair, because low rate "encourage investment."
But, I find his argument to be bogus, as any extra money working people get to keep gets spent, mostly in this country, which also stimulates investment in this country. When super-rich folks like Mitt Romney get to keep vast millions they are just as likely to invest them overseas, as Mitt Romney already has a proven habit of doing.
This is a winning issue for Democrats so we need to keep up the "full court press" on Mitt Romney's personal tax issues, as well as his national tax policies plans, which he as been equally evasive about.
Sneaky, evasive, and bogus are the feelings that emerge from me when I think about Mitt Romney and taxes -- oh, and outrageous, and disgraceful too!
"Maybe instead of attacking others on taxes, Romney should come clean about his!"
This Wall Street Journal article allows me to quote a bit more about the ad, and still be within Fair Use Guidelines, and provides you with another article to read.
Obama ad attacks Romney on taxes and secret video
The Obama campaign wasted little time in attacking Mitt Romney on two of last week’s news stories – the release of a hidden-camera video in which Mr. Romney complains that 47% of Americans pay no income taxes, and Mr. Romney’s own release of his 2011 tax return, showing that he paid a 14.1% effective federal tax rate.
The new ad is currently running in Ohio, the Obama campaign said. Campaign officials also promised more attacks on the issue of the 47%.
The ad starts by stating that Mr. Romney “attacked 47% of Americans who pay no income tax, including veterans, elderly, the disabled.” It then samples a brief snippet of the hidden-camera video, in which Mr. Romney says, “My job is not to worry about those people,” meaning the 47% who pay no income tax. The ad then asks, “Doesn’t the president have to worry about everyone?”
Then the ad goes on to note that according to the just-released 2011 Romney tax return, the candidate and his wife “paid just 14.1% in taxes last year.” And it says that “he keeps millions in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands” and won’t release his tax returns before 2010. The ad concludes, “Maybe instead of attacking others on taxes, Romney should come clean on his.”
