Lydia Tillman, now 32, was attacked by Travis Forbes in Fort Collins, Colorado in July 2011, she suffered a stroke that left her in a coma for five weeks. Her jaw, wrist and ribs were also shattered.
Ms Tillman survived the horrors by jumping from a window and hiding until firefighters arrived to put out a fire started by the rapist (and previous murderer) to cover his tracks. This is a horrible story and I wont go into anymore of the details, I just wanted to lay the groundwork for what also outraged me about the story. This jumped out at me:
Her brother Jacob, who is hoping to raise $65,000 for reconstructive jaw surgery for his sister, has spoken of her inspiring positivity in the face of these appalling injuries.
.....
Her insurance only pays for a procedure that would wire her jaw shut - a move which would reverse her speech therapy by stopping her from practicing words regularly, her brother said.
What kind of (insert curse word here) insurance company will only provide a procedure that inhibits recovery? This is a woman who had to learn to walk, talk and live again. $65,000 dollars. The price of lunch with Mitt Romney, yet her brother is forced to fundraising for help getting his sister help?
And what would have happened if she did not have Insurance? Take her to the Emergency Room?
This is so outrageous that even the DailyMail commentors have dropped their usual RedStateHate-Mode:
What a remarkable woman. She is no victim, because she refuses to be one. What courage, will and intelligence to know she still has many wonderful years ahead. I previously posted many comments about Americans are always playing the victim card. Many people let a traumatic experience ruin their lives by dwelling on the past, feeling sorry because some relative or pet died many years ago, any excuse to be on the dole and expect sympathy. If you cannot make it in this wonderful country of endless opportunities, you cannot make it anywhere. Most of my comments receive red arrows; maybe the truth hurts, America is a land of mostly whiners and losers. It's so refreshing to know some one like Lydia Tillman. Best of luck. I know she will make it. I wish some of my tax dollars will go to help with tbe medical expenses. I wouldn't mind.
Which insurance company is failing to provide this woman with care? What is the name of the decision maker at this company which has cut her off? The heralded Obamacare plan is for people to have insurance, on their dime, and this lady had insurance! Why should the family have to go begging for donations for her care when she had insurance? A crime victim who is also a responsible person carries insurance yet when it is time to cover the care she's left out in the cold? What the hell? In whose cartoon is this fair? The gov't regulates insurance companies in the US. This company should be named and shamed. It is infuriating that a gov't regulated insurance company can accept premiums paid in good faith, yet when it is time to cover cost of care, the lady is left out in the cold.&^%$#%&*((&^%%% (<=curse words)

The family shouldnt have to be sorting out insurance, trying to raise money for the better treatment. This woman has suffered enough, and what if she hadnt had insurance? Hope the monster who did this never gets out of jail.I think we really are getting so used to hearing these horror stories because nothing ever gets done, no harsher prison sentances, no push for affordable healthcare, it just goes on and on.
