If you think the wholly racist "Southern Strategy" can't be played here in the north, in Massachusetts, much less, without reward, think again.

Hanson - The local merchant who put controversial anti-Obama signs outside his store has added two placards showing U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren in a Native American headdress with war paint on her cheeks.

“Elizabeth Warren is a joke. Princess Little Big Liar. Vote Scott Brown United States Senate,” state the signs outside Sullivans Inc., a motorcycle accessories distributor at 121 Franklin St.

The owner of the business,  Robert Sullivan (father of 2, grandfather of 2), has another racially tinged sign targeting President Obama (no Hitler stash, just hammer and sickles on the shirt collar), and one either made to look like a little girl flipping off Obama, or she is actually flying the bird.
Hanson building commissioner and zoning enforcement officer Robert P. Curran said he’s fielded calls from people who refuse to shop in Hanson until the signs come down.

Sullivan said he has received “hundreds” of emails from people nationwide and internationally, most of which have been positive. But he’s also heard from people who oppose them.

He received emails from as far away as the United Kingdom and Kenya, where people “are not real happy with me.”

“But that’s OK,” said Sullivan. “It’s hitting home.”

What's hitting home Mr. Sullivan, is that you are a racist prick who can't express your disagreement or dislike  with or of the president or Elizabeth Warren without going base ugly.  Because appealing to ones better angels even in disagreement requires too much thought and effort, right?

And the town of Hanson is going to suffer.

But that's okay because like your candidate, Mitt Romney, you feel entitled because of all you've done for the town, all the fundraisers, all the food pantry donations, etc.  Why oh why are they "picking" on you, trying to get your signs taken down with all that pesky by-law stuff? /snark

For his part,  racist whisperer Scott Brown, has said that the signs are "inappropriate" and "over the top."   No word if he will send Sullivan a strongly worded letter.

1973:  Fauxcahontas listed "white" on her application to Rutgers law school and when asked  “Are you interested in applying for admission under the Program for Minority Group Students?” Warren answered “no.”

1981-1986:   A University of Texas personnel document shows that Warren listed herself as “white” when she taught at the law school there.  Warren’s employment document at the University of Texas allowed her to check multiple boxes specifying “the racial category or categories with which you most closely identify.” The options included “American Indian or Alaskan Native,” but she chose only white.

1987-1995:  According to Penn’s 2005 “Minority Equity Report,” it too identified Warren, as a minority.

1995:  Fauxcahontas began listing herself as "white," again.

Umm, see? absolute proof that she benefited  . . . or not

But the human genetics diviner, more appropriate as a midway/carnival side show act than US Senator, should be proud, these are, after all, whom he is seeking to reach.   His people.

Help retire Scott Brown, Actblue.

Gotta love facebook:

11:28 AM PT:
You know there are Native American motorcycle riders and clubs out there.   . . .

How does it help you to insult your customers? Or does Robert Sullivan think they won't find out.  Laconia (which has a major Bike Week) is only 2 hours away.

This is beautiful, and interesting.  I've only seen Catholic bike blessings

12:30 PM PT: I forgot to mention that Robert Sullivan  has three stores.  One in Hanson, MA, the others are located in Birmingham, Ala. and Reno, Nevada.

Eman has more information on the main store, the one in Hanson.

Brown is pandering to ignorance

by Prof27 on Fri Sep 28, 2012 at 03:26:48 PM EDT

As somebody who teaches in Oklahoma and who's written a book about the problem of Indian identity, I've followed this story with interest. Aside from the blatant racism in Brown's attack, it seems to me that he is banking on the likelihood that Massachusetts voters won't know the difference between someone who claims Indian ancestry (as do many, many Oklahomans) and one who claims to be an Indian. When Warren "checked the box" on her faculty profile, she was claiming the former.  Brown is accusing her of the latter, which, if true, would be a form of ethnic fraud.  In Oklahoma this distinction is fairly well understood. Most people who claim to be Indians are enrolled members of federally recognized tribes. Most of them also carry CDIB cards (Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood) which entitles them to certain benefits, such as the use of the Indian Health Service.

To my knowledge, Warren has never claimed to be any of those things, nor has she ever taken personal advantage of her ancestry. She simply stated what she knew to be true based on her family history -- which is not, by any stretch, ethnic fraud.  I've been dismayed that she hasn't done more to clarify the distinction between ancestry and identity, but it's hard to say if that would help her politically.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
