Good morning, Kossacks! Welcome to The Point, your virtual Sunday jazz brunch gastro-pub by the sea! Just pick a table near the windows (The ones by the windows tend to fill up fast), and the waitstaff will be over with your choice of Bloody Mary, Mimosa, and our selection of juices and non-alcoholic drinks.
The coffee today is a Fair Trade Balinese medium roast, and we'll make it an Irish Coffee if you ask; the herbal tea is Constant Comment, and the iced tea is Mango Ceylon. The buffet this morning includes eggs florentine, hot & sweet sausage from our local butcher, both regular bacon (VERY crisp) and Canadian bacon, and hash browns (with and without bacon & sausage). The pancakes today are Bavarian Chocolate, and the omelette of the day is a California Veggie with green & red peppers, onions, shallots, and Brie cheese.
We'll have the talking heads on the big-screen TVs later on (Don't have a menu for them yet -- sorry), followed by the Ryder Cup and whatever other sports you fancy. (We at The Point prefer European football -- soccer, to you Americans -- but we'll consider any suggestions in the comments.)
Meantime, here are today's picks on our 6-CD sound system:
Miles Davis - Nefertiti
Aaron Parks - Invisible Cinema
The New Gary Burton Quartet - Common Ground
Dexter Gordon - Our Man in Paris
James Carter - Chasin' the Gypsy
Terence Blanchard - Flow
Now, the concept of this open thread is to share anything in your newspaper (analog or digital) that catches your eye. That's anything -- articles, LTEs, cartoons, whatever! It could be political, but it doesn't have to be if it's something that makes your eyes pop. And if there's something in there that talks about your local arts scene, please share it! I believe a love of the arts is contagious, and we should all be carriers!
If response is good, I'll do this every Sunday morning (travel permitting). Either way, sip your beverage, enjoy the scenery, and please tell us:
WHAT'S IN YOUR NEWSPAPER?
