George Will made the suggestion that the only reason Obama seems poised to win re-election is because he's black and Americans are reluctant to throw out of office our first black President. In his column in the Washington Post, Will declares that “the nation, which is generally reluctant to declare a president a failure — thereby admitting that it made a mistake in choosing him — seems especially reluctant not to give up on the first African American president. If so, the 2012 election speaks well of the nation’s heart, if not its head.”
Perhaps this is the reason that Americans are voting for Obama. Or perhaps it's this:
5,100,000 private-sector jobs created since 2010.
The end of the Iraq War.
The prescription drug donut hole for seniors closed.
No more lifetime caps on medical benefits.
Women no longer charged more than men for health care.
No more pre-existing conditions when it comes to health care coverage.
Osama bin Laden lying at the bottom of the ocean.
No more banks sucking up money out of student loans.
The repeal of DADT.
Stepping up for marriage equality.
Middle-class tax cuts.
Strengthening the G.I. Bill.
Increasing veterans benefits.
Cutting waste and fraud out of Medicare, thereby increasing benefits and services for seniors and extending the life of the program.
An automobile industry that is once again the envy of the world.
Gee, George, I just can't think of any other reasons to vote for Obama other than that he's black. But thanks for adding your two-cents worth to the conversation. Seriously, you get
paid to do this?
