I’ve been receiving anti-Obama e-mails from an acquaintance for far too long, most recently about "(An) Israeli Psychologist on Obama".

I've been way too tolerant of these e-mails and asked this person only the question at the end of this Diary.

Here, in total, is my full response:

Good morning, B.  I hope everything is going well for you and your wife.

I've been receiving your e-mails regarding President Obama, his family, and his leadership.

The United States is the BEST country in the world, and  in me, you will find no greater supporter of the USA - and that definitely includes the troops!

We are a free country and that means the freedom to speak our minds - as long as we speak the truth.

I did some research on your most recent e-mail and found the following (links included): on Dr. Vaknin: on Ali Sina, apparently the true author of the 'Israeli Psychologist' article:

Dr. Vaknin's own webpage where he states: "I am NOT a mental health professional - read the DISCLAIMER...":

And not related to the 'Psychologist' article,  here’s an opinion piece on Dr. Vaknin's criticism of Wikipedia:

I do not have100% confidence in any website, and that includes my regularly-visited,,,, or any other supposed 'authority' on the truth.  However, over time, I do get a sense of which source(s) are more reliable, and those which are not.  Add to that my innate trust in President Obama (although his letter grade has gone from an A-/B+ in early 2009 to a C-/D+ now), and I believe that he is the best candidate to lead our country out of the morass that got started around the time of President Reagan.

Is Barack Obama perfect?  Hell, no, but he's man enough to admit his mistakes.

Is the Obama family taking advantage of the taxpayer dime, e.g., family vacations, the First Lady's dresses, 'lobster dinners' (that obviously photoshopped image I found especially appalling!)?  I've seen no legitimate documentation that any of that is happening, and the Obama’s have been clear that a majority of their purchases have been out of their own pocket.  Plus, previous Administrations have traveled to campaign, and I saw nowhere near the present hue and cry when those Presidents - of either party - toured the country.

Show me a candidate who is better than Barack Obama, and I guarantee he/she will have my vote.  However, to send me unsubstantiated, RACIST e-mails is totally, TOTALLY unacceptable.

As I returned from Alamosa, CO yesterday, there was a big, anonymous, hand-painted sign by the side of the road saying:

Really?  That person truly believes that Barack Obama “hates” the United States of America?  You poor, ignorant fool...

There've been others in our mutual volunteer organization that, sadly, have sent me disparaging and racist e-mails similar to yours.  Muslims were attacked in several of those, but blacks and other minorities came under fire as well.

The question I asked them was, "Why are you sending me these e-mails?"

One apologized, and we remain in touch, although it's with caution on my side.

The other said, "I thought you'd think it was funny' - and this was from a school teacher!

I resent any assumption that because I'm a middle-aged white guy, that I have the same opinions and attitudes as other middle-aged white guys, so outside of what's needed for our organization, I've refused ANY communication with this person.

So, B…

Why did you send me this e-mail?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  My wife had a similar experience (8+ / 0-)

We've been getting a similar steady stream of anti-Obama, he's not American, he's a Muslim, Obamacare mandates we all must have microchips inserted in our bodies by March 2013, Sharia law is coming, crapola from our neighbor.
We assume it's coming from the woman of the house who has been battling some health issues for some years now and has become more and more of a religious fanatic as she goes through them.
They always came to an email account that my wife uses and i rarely look at it so she would be the one to blow a gasket and sometimes be moved to do some de-bunking research and fire off a reply that basically said "you're nuts" without coming out and saying it.
Finally once the Romney sign went up on their lawn and another nasty email came our way she had enough. After agonizing over it she sent a reply asking them to please stop. That we respect their right to support Romney, please respect our decision to support the President and stop sending these emails.
But I must say, I really like the question you posed at the end. Should be the response sent out by everyone who receives these hateful, and most times just plain lunatic, emails against Obama.

  •  Great job (12+ / 0-)

of putting them in their place.  I too became so sick and tired of the same inane bullshit from many of my "friends?", that I finally had enough and started calling "bullshit" on each and ever damn piece of right wing propaganda that came into my email inbox.  Needless to say, the amount's have greatly dwindled away.

In fact, I've had numerous people "unfriend" me on Facebook because of doing the same.  They can't handle those who disprove their crap they spew.  And frankly, I really don't care.  Because if they are that god damned shallow that a mild mannered debate sends them packing, then they are not anyone I truly care to associate with anyhow.  I'm to a point in my life where I really don't care if I piss anyone off.  I'm tired of enabling the right wing blowhards, and I refuse to sit idly by.

    In solidarity.

with this nonsense.  Trying to inject reality into discussions with people who get their "facts" from chain emails requires a certain amount of unwarranted optimism.

    and your support.

I've tolerated similar remarks both online and in person, but being a (too?) tolerant person, I refuse to take this crap any longer.

Wanna take shots at the President as 'kenwards' mentioned above?  Fine - just prove it with facts.

Wanna support Governor Romney?  Go right ahead, as long as your decision is based on truth and not sound bites.

The statement that evil triumphs when good women and men do nothing definitely applies here, and dammit - I'm fed up with these close-minded and ignorant people trying to tell me what to think and how to run my life.
