Because, really, that's what this debate felt like.
All that was missing was Rmoney ordering the moderator to "Cut His Mike".
It felt like something I'd see sitting in the waiting room at some corporate business. There's the host, and there's his "Opponent" but the host gets to make up whatever the hell he wants, and the opponent is not given the opportunity to challenge, lest he be seen as rude.
(Sigh of completely unsurprised annoyance on the flip)
I hate seeing this kind of behavior from grown adults. Fox News and their media allies are promoting a style of disagreement that is completely ingenious. It sets up the combatants, then ties one of them up and hand the other guy a pair of brass knuckles.
It's about power. At least the appearance of power. As long as one side seems more powerful, they "Win" the debate. In this one, the president, by being respectful, following the rules, and treating his opponent as an equal, showed that he was willing to be restrained.
Rmoney was not. He demanded respect, even though he did not deserve it. He refused to allow the rules to restrain him. Honestly, if he thought it would win him points, and not a charge of assault, I wouldn't have been surprised to see him throw an object at Obama.
This does not say "Strong Leader" to me. This says that we have a man who is dangerously unhinged. We already know that Mitty believes he has the right to talk over people. He believes he has the right to strong arm others. We saw that in the debate tonight.
And we can look forward to that if (GOD FORBID) he actually manages to steal this thing.
However, I am sick and tired of the media being complicit in this. Already, they are crowing about how he "Won" the debate. He didn't win it. He STOLE it. By cheating. Exactly how he plans to win the presidency. And if the media continues to refuse to call him out on it, instead maintaining their lovely "horse-race" narrative, the possibility of another grand theft comes closer and closer.
