OK, here's what I thought I heard Rmoney say in last night's debate:
1. He wants to cut tax rates but eliminate deductions so the same amount of revenue is raised.
2. He will never raise taxes on the middle class.
3. He won't support any tax plan that leads to the rich paying less.
4. He doesn't think the rich "job creators" should pay more.
I don't get it. Please help me understand…
Consider the logical (I know, how quaint) implications of these points.
• The rich won't pay more, nor will they pay less.
• The middle class won't pay more. Presumably they could pay less, but in order for the plan to be revenue-neutral, somebody would have to pay more. The poor, maybe? Seems doubtful.
This leads to the conclusion that the rich and the middle class would both pay the same as they're paying now. And if this is so, then what the fuck is the big deal about cutting rates and eliminating deductions all about? I mean, what's the point of going through the exercise if everybody winds up paying the same as they are now?
It seems to me that it doesn't make any sense at all. Am I crazy?
Please help.
