DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too!
Our scheduled diary for the evening didn't post, so this is an open thread. Please chime in and let us know what you're working on, what quilty problems you're trying to solve, challenges, successes. Or tell us about your work space and frustrations or joys with it. Share a tip, ask for one, post a photo or two or more!
Wednesday I went to the AQS (American Quilter's Society) Des Moines Quilt Show. There were hundreds of vendors selling everything from machines to fabric to gadgets and more. Quilts entered in the national contest were displayed, as were quilts from the Des Moines area guild. I enjoyed the local quilts more than the national ones. Frankly, I think the style to extremely heavy machine quilting detracts from the beauty of many quilts, rather than enhances it. To me it's a matter of balance, and the current style does not balance the design elements, in my opinion.
Three special exhibitions featured authors' quilts, in particular Gwen Marston's, Egyptian applique quilts that mimicked the Arabic tile work, and spectacular Japanese quilts. These were my favorite part of the show.
Here are a few photos of the Japanese quilts.
Project update for Okiciyap
I have three blocks for Okiciyap now. The goal is to have TWELVE blocks for a 3x4 layout, but we need at least 9 and as many as 20 blocks.
For the Okiciyap quilt, the goal is that I will have all blocks by the end of November.
Here is the list as I have it. (It does NOT include all the volunteers for Sara R's veterans' quilts project.) I already received blocks from the names in bold.
There are a number of people I haven't heard from as to which, if any projects, they'll be able to help with. If you see your name and the information isn't correct, please let me know. If you aren't going to be able to help, please don't fret -- just let me know (in comments or in kosmail) and I'll take your name off the list.
When you complete blocks and are ready to mail them, kosmail me for the mailing address.
