While reading the comments to Crashing Vor's diary of his excellent ad New Ad: "Big Bird" (highly recommended if you haven't seen it), I ran across pamelabrown's note that "last night, right before Masterpiece Classic, PBS had their own Big Bird commercial. It was very emotional." I searched youtube hoping someone might have posted it, but I couldn't find it. I did however find something else that I thought you might want to see ...
This is Ellis Bromberg, General Manager at Milwaukee Public Television; and he makes a great response to Romney and behalf of his station and the Milwaukee community. But what he says also applies to all PBS stations and our national community. It's a statement that should get a wider audience, so I wanted to share it with you.
I hope that what he says about the response he sees in reaction to Romney's comments is true of the nation as a whole. I hope that in these days following Romney's Big Bird moment that our neighbors and coworkers are thinking a bit more deeply about what electing Romney would mean to our country in the very real impact it would have on our culture, on the way we interact with each other, on our communities, and on the world in which our children will grow up.
