Well, that's what the Pew crosstabs said today in their little poll.

Oh, that and that there would be more far more people to vote who make $75K a year than who make between $30 and $75K.

And if you think that the likely voter breakdown November 6 will be around 36% Republican, 33% Democrat, and 31% other/Independent, then The Pew has your poll.

If you haven't seen Pew's crosstabs, I suggest you look at them.  This is the way their poll came out.

It's a poll where white women for Romney are leading white women for Obama by +19.

It's a poll where women overall are voting for Romney and Obama in equal numbers.

I can theorize why they were willing to run with a poll that is likely about +6 in Romney's direction, easily: in August, they went with a poll that was likely +6 in Obama's direction, and some on the right, notably Fox, complained.

Pew is a nonpartisan place, but that doesn't mean it's not looking out for itself.  This one came out like the bad call of an umpire who was trying to even up a previous bad call.  That's the way they're nonpartisan.  Not through their polling methods--which, in a word, suck, and certainly spin like a weathervane.

Of course, the later in the game, the more such calls matter.  Doesn't bother Pew.  But what was really depressing was to hear PBS run with a poll that should have been weighed in but also ignored as their lead story for six hours today.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

NPR always reports polls with very little commentary. They almost always leave it to you to find the back story.

If its a statistical anomaly, other polls will come along and correct the matter.

If they're for real, then we have work to do.

Don't become an 'unskewed' guy like the Reeps were 5 days ago.

The only poll that matters is November 6.  Every poll, no matter how well Mitt is faring, has Obama doing better among 'registered voters.'  Want to win this thing?  Help registered voters become likely and surefire voters.

No one could have predicted the media making this a horse race.

This just helps them to write the "Comeback Kid" narrative that they are going to write in two weeks.
    Trust me...

The fact is, Barack didn't play the game, and for all means and purposes, he sucked in that debate.

The second he opened that debate with the shout out to Michelle for their anniversary, my girlfriend and I just looked at each other and said, "uh-oh, WTF?" Not a real smart way to start a debate in front of the American people. Then it just got worse from there.
He was totally unprepared, and that actually pissed me off in the moment. I don't think that showed much respect for those of us that have been defending him since Rev. Wright.
    This shit is serious.
Can you Imagine Romney as President with a Tea Party Congress and a weak Democratic Majority in the Senate?

    Here's the thing though.
We were feeling too comfortable by a half.
Nate's 87% chance of winning in November "insta polls" are not helping.

I hope the President is a little scared now.
I know how competitive he is, and in the same way in 2008 he let Hillary back into the Primary race after Winning Iowa by going to NH and running like a Rock Star instead of doing the Townhalls that he did in Iowa that let people get to know him, like him, and vote for him, I think the Campaign and the President were starting to believe their own press, and the "inevitability" cancer was starting to metastasize into voter apathy on Election Day.

    So yeah, this poll sucks.
    So what.
    Winners Win.
    It's winning time.
    Fuck the Ref's.
You have to overcome bad calls.
You have to be good enough to overcome bad calls.

If the strength and stability of the President's campaign, and the determination and dedication of Progressives can be destroyed with one close poll, then we don't fucking DESERVE to win.

  •  I don't get why people keep complaning about (0+ / 0-)

The polls, unless it's right-wing crap like Gravis and Rasmussen and We ask America I usually take these other polls at face value. Are the cross-tabs screwy, they sure seem so.

But I would advise people to be patient, the polls will swing back in our favor shortly, and guess who would be bitching about the polls then? Yes the right-wing crazies. Haven't heard anything about unskewed polls in the past few days have you? Wait until the last week of the campaign when polls will be showing Romney headed for defeat, their heads will be surely exploding then.

Let's just take a look into the recent past, shall we?
      We can't do this again!

We can't let the polls have ANY AFFECT ON US WHATSOEVER.

I know that they may seem edifying when we are up, and devastating when we are down, but we just have to keep driving on as if we are down by 3 at ALL TIMES!

  •  If they are lousy cross tabs, next poll will be (0+ / 0-)

Different.  Til then work like we're 6 points down just got easier.
