At one point yesterday during his Big Foreign Policy speech at the VMI Republican Presidential Nominee claimed breathlessly that...
President Obama hasn't signed a single new trade agreement. That didn't sound right to me, so I took five whole seconds out of my life and used the google on it. What did I find? He's signed three of them.
Obama signs 3 trade deals, biggest since NAFTA By JIM ABRAMS - Associated Press | AP – Fri, Oct 21, 2011
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama signed off Friday on the first three, and possibly the last, — free trade agreements of his administration, deals with South Korea, Colombia, and Panama that could be worth billions to American exporters and create tens of thousands of jobs. So, um, what the bloody fractose was Romney talking about yesterday?
The three deals were years in the making, and the difficulty of bringing them to fruition make it unlikely there will be another bilateral trade agreement during Obama's current term.
And I wasn't the only one that noticed. Rachel had a field day with this.
Yesterday Romney claimed that he"“will pursue a real and successful transition to Afghan security forces by the end of 2014.”
And, what, Obama doesn't? That is precisely what the President has already pledged to do.
On Syria he said "“I will work with our partners to identify and organize those members of the opposition who share our values and ensure they obtain the arms they need to defeat Assad’s tanks, helicopters, and fighter jets.”
President Obama is already doing exactly that.
[T]he Obama administration is preparing a plan that would essentially give U.S. nods of approval to arms transfers from Arab nations to some Syrian opposition fighters. And it's not just Romney himself who doesn't seem to know it.
Yesterday Romney said he would "“put the leaders of Iran on notice that the United States and our friends and allies will prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons capability.”
President Obama did that four years ago.
...four years ago, I made a commitment to the American people and said that we would use all elements of American power to pressure Iran and prevent it from acquiring a nuclear weapon. And that is what we have done.”Romney claimed that he would increase the presence of U.S. warships in the Gulf.
Guess what? Obama is already Doing That.
USS ENTERPRISE, North Arabian Sea | The U.S. Navy is vowing to keep commercial sea lanes open in the international waters off Iran, despite a view among a small number of critics that Washington’s military muscle may inadvertently stoke tensions with Tehran in the event of a crisis.A shorter version of his speech could have been I Plan to Do Everything that Obama Is Doing and has already Done, that's why you should Fire Obama and Hire Me.
This of course brought about a ringing endorsement from someone we should all be paying our close undivided attention to based on his tried, true and tested foreign policy bona fides
Terrific, comprehensive speech by Gov. Romney at VMI. He knows America's role in the world should be as a leader not as a spectator.— Donald Rumsfeld (@RumsfeldOffice) October 8, 2012
--Forehead Meets Wall---THUMP!
Hollee Frackin' Sasquatch on a Stick!
If the fate of the freeworld wasn't at stake I would swear the entire Romney campaign was really Andy Kaufman's Greatest Mind-Fucking Prank Ever!
This just can't be happening. This is just like his claim that Obama "Stole $716 Billion from Medicare" when he didn't. Or that he weakened the work requirements for Welfare, when he didn't. Or that the drop to 7.8% in Unemployment isn't because people have stopped looking for work, it's because more people are actually working and as it result their payroll taxes have helped drive the Deficit Down by $200 Billion This Year.
And oh by the way...
Helpful reminder that what Romney says in public on foreign policy is basically the opposite of what he says in private talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2012/…— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) October 8, 2012
On the 47% Tape Romney said all you can do on the Israel/Palestine issue is kick the ball down the field and "Hope" some solution presents itself, during his speech yesterday he said "Hope Is Not A Strategy".
Dude. That's. YOUR. Strategy!
This guy is like the smarmy telemarker who calls you every night at 5:45 pm just as your sitting down for dinner and then proceeds to try and sweet talk you into a lifetime subscription to Anal Warts Magazine - for the articles.
Madre de Fuck!
Why-o-why does anyone take this Lying Mendacious Serial Fact-Mangling FrackHole Seriously anymore?
6:52 AM PT: In response to most comments, actually I do think the MSM is covering this. Most of my quotes and examples for this article came from Thinkprogress, Talking Points Memo had it almost immediately. Rachel had it all last night. I'm seeing the Washington Post write about it this morning.
It's just like when people said Obama didn't call Romney out during the debate - he actually DID do that, he just did it in an understated matter-of-fact way.
The difference I think is showing some passion and OUTRAGE about it. That's what I tried to do in this diary. If you just go "Romney said Obama didn't sign any trade agreements, Obama says he signed three of them - ho hum". That's Not Good Enough! People need to react to the Brass that Romney is showing by clearly thinking We can't Tell he's Completely Full Of Mitt!.
8:36 AM PT: Ah, son of a bitch.
Paul Ryan said that Democrats's strategy through the election is "to call us liars for a month" in an interview with Michigan radio host Frank Beckmann Monday. The day after Wednesday's presidential debate, the Obama campaign released an ad saying Romney had not told the truth during the debate. Now it's "They called us 'Liar' because they can't defend their record" game. (Head to Wall) -Thump..thump...Thump
“It seems pretty clear that their new strategy is basically just call us liars, to descend down into a mud pit and hopefully with enough mudslinging back and forth and distortion, people will get demoralized and then they can win by default; sort of a choice of the lesser or two evils,” Ryan said.
1:31 PM PT: One Good Reason not to Race for the Fire exit, even this many days after the worst debate performance we could have imagined... Obama is still leading with enough electoral votes to Win (270) without both Ohio and Florida.
