Okay, admittedly I'm still a little nervous about how the rest of the debates go, now that's generally out of my control, we need to relax about the polls, but thankfully there is one that really caught my interest.
The reason I'm a little more relaxed is this number right here. Even with such a "fantastic" debate performance you would think that Romney would be Crushing Obama Right? ABC News/Washington Post polled the favorability on both candidates after the debate.
Romney is at 47 Favorable and 51 Unfavorable, Obama? He's at 55 Favorable and 44 Favorable. So let's just make this clear even with Obama's worst performance of his career Romney still can't get to that magical 50 number.
Four previous candidates have been underwater in popularity at roughly this point in available data back to 1980: losing Democratic candidates John Kerry in late September 2004, Walter Mondale in October 1984 and Jimmy Carter in September 1980; and Republican George H.W. Bush in October 1992. In another gauge, though, just one incumbent postwar president has been re-elected with a job performance rating as low as Obama’s at roughly this time, George W. Bush in 2004. (The same may have been true for Harry S. Truman; data are insufficient.)
That data right there should at least relax you. No candidate that is that unpopular late in the game is going to win. Now granted a lot of people are worried that Obama might blow the next two debates.
I don't think he will. You know what? When you hit Rock Bottom you don't tend to hit a new low. Obviously this last week was probably the worst week in the campaign for Obama. I know this is a stupid comparison but I happen to be a fan of Baseball. There's a player on Obama's Favorite Team the Chicago White Sox Adam Dunn.
Adam Dunn perennially up until 2011 (not counting his rookie year) had hit around 25-40+ Home Runs. Then in 2011 something happened? He hit .159 11 HR and 42 RBI's. It was one of the worst seasons in history by a full time player.
So you would think knowing that people in a fantasy draft would not take him for 2012. I at one point saw that he was still available and ended up taking him. My reason? I thought he'd already had such a bad season that there is just no way he was going to repeat those numbers.
And you know what Ladies and Gentlemen he did not disappoint.
Dunn in 2012 did hit .204 (He's not really a guy who hits for Batting Average) but he hit 41 HR's and 91 RBI's. So he absolutely helped me with his big power numbers in my Fantasy League.
So I want you all to Relax, Obama will be much better in his second debate. I'm tired of hearing that this man does not care. If he did not care why would he bother running again? Why would he be doing all that he is doing? Why would he have tried to reform health care? Because he obviously does care. He also proved that he is human and that we all struggle. Be glad that this was the first debate and not the last debate.
As I just showed you by the numbers, We can win this election! It's not over yet and Mitt Romney is still not liked by 50 percent of the american people and that's a number that matters.
