Let's see... Where do I begin?
Well...
Um...
Um...
Uh... Yeah.
Anyway, I find it very interesting that since a number of people have argued Mitt Romney won the presidential debate last week, all of a sudden we're seeing celebrities and others come out in the open and support Mitt Romney or at least have second thoughts about President Obama for re-election. By no means should we hit these people on the head with a bat and tell them how to think because as Americans, it's their right to speak their mind and voice their opinions.
But really... Seriously. Since when are celebrities experts at politics? Well, actually, Al Franken is. He's one of the U.S. Senators in Minnesota and he's one hell of a brain, great humor and is a fighter in the Senate (even when dealing with considerable odds). Bill Maher, well, he's probably the best spokesman there is on b.s. attacks on Obama's "lack of change." There are a number of celebrities like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck who still support President Obama for re-election, even while recognizing not enough was done in his first term. Morgan Freeman and Samuel L. Jackson certainly seem to be informed over the possibilities of a Mitt Romney presidency and they never waiver in their support for President Obama.
But not Stacey Dash or Hulk Hogan.
So you're supporting Mitt Romney because of the state of the country? So you're saying that because General Motors is on fire right now and adding jobs like crazy and that Ohio is becoming the 4th highest growing state in the country you're supporting Romney? So because you, as a woman, a Democrat who voted for Obama in 2008 are supporting Romney even though it is clear Romney and Ryan have anti-choice policies that will make women at more of an unfortunate position than before because their voices will be taken away? Because Romney wants to eliminate subsidies for PBS and take away funding for Sesame Street you're voting for Romney? Because Romney and Ryan are going to do more damage to medicare and social security you're still voting for him?
So your biggest complaint about Obama is that he used your song without your permission, not because he hasn't done enough. So you're not too much into politics? No wonder! You aren't informed! I mean, when was the last time a wrestler was really informed about the issues or even bothered to take 15 minutes to look up information on even the White House's own website that 1) you can easily find on the internet and 2) has loads of information on President Obama and his White House's accomplishments. They're listed right at the front page, genius! Of course, there is Jesse Ventura who actually served in politics but sadly, even he's a pessimist who still doesn't pay attention to what's REALLY going on.
So anyway, the lesson here is that you can't always count on celebrities to be the best spokespeople for why you should or should not vote for a presidential candidate. Hell, at one point in 2011 I was disappointed with President Obama but I still made it a point of researching the Internet on my own and paying attention to the accomplishments he's done, as well as the trends that have been happening in the economy and the world.
I mean, really, did Bill Clinton's speech at the Democratic National Convention not convince a number of people or what?!
Of course, it's perfectly reasonable to say I shouldn't waste a diary on two uninformed people who aren't going to help the cause of Obama being defeated for re-election. I understand.
Still, Bill Maher is right. The American public can be really stupid. Well, I'd say uninformed and absent of knowledge is the appropriate thing to say. All these would-be "former Obama supporters" must think all that ails us must be cured in Obama's first term in office through the process of osmosis. Apparently God must all of a sudden must release his magical healing dust across America and everyone will be cured. Yippie!
God. I'm glad I live in Berkeley. Around here, people are really informed.
And no liberal here is like Jon Lovitz. Seriously, is his comment on Obama's proposed tax hike for the rich a joke? I mean, if he's such a liberal Democrat like we are, surely he's aware that tax hikes for the rich are a MAJOR part of our platform to help fix the debt problem we face in the U.S. On second thought, maybe Lovitz can't get any gigs and just wants to speak out for attention.
Sorry you three. Nice try but Obama is going to win re-election and we on Daily Kos are going to fight and do whatever it take to get out the vote to ensure his re-election!
