Oof! I know the national polling isn't as significant as the electoral college and swing state polls, but after trying to remain determined and positive for the last week I'm getting worn down. And I lost the expectations game with myself -I didn't expect the poll numbers to shift this much.
Couple that with the apparent end of the the Romney gaffe-a-day he had going in September and I'm thinking we've got too much riding on Mighty Joe!
As soon as the last debate was over we had Dan Rather saying
the vice presidential debate may get the largest audience of any vice presidential debate we've had so far...
And from the
Washington Post
Now, in the wake of President Obama’s widely panned performance last week in his first debate against Mitt Romney, the stakes for Biden are suddenly higher than ever. In the Oct. 11 vice-presidential debate he must not only avoid making any gaffes but also try to puncture his Republican opponent’s arguments on taxes, entitlement reform and deficit reduction, something Obama was criticized for failing to do last week.
No this isn't a chicken-little the-sky-is-falling-diary. I just want to look ahead and try to map out the narrative for Friday morning.
We've set ourselves up so that IF Joe loses we are going to be in a death spiral -not because it is that important but as tietacksays -we've let the narrative take over the campaign.
We can sustain another debate loss -but we cannot sustain another week of this hand wringing. I wish we had something that had traction before the debate to sort of change the conversation - but nothing has really gotten traction -not even Lyin' Ryan and his rather guns and taxes interview that went south.
I'm not saying Joe loses, I'm saying get in front of this!! Get your hack on and make sure on Friday morning we have Joe's back.
