Rep. Allen West is at it again. By "it" I mean really over-the-top, reprehensible campaign tactics. This time it's a mailer he's sent out [warning, big file] associating Patrick Murphy with terrorists who want to destroy Israel. Seriously. Here's the image Florida voters see when they open their mailbox.

Mailer by Allen West campaign, featuring American flag burning.
And inside:
At a time when there's so much danger and uncertainty in the Middle East, we need leaders who will stand up for Israel. Unfortunately, there are some in America who are weakening that commitment, and they support Patrick Murphy.

President Obama, who hasn't visited Israel once during his entire term in office, supports Patrick Murphy. An anti-Israel group that received funding from billionaire George Soros and whose co-founder met with Hamas also endorse him. Murphy's Super PAC even took $100,000 from an alleged sponsor of terrorism against Israel.

Goal Thermometer
Guess what other president never visited Israel? Yep. Ronald Reagan. Bush senior never got there during his tenure. Bush the younger went twice, both trips in the last year of his second term.

West is getting increasingly desperate, playing the George Soros card. It works to terrify his teabagger friends, but will it work with Florida voters? They might never have heard of Soros, but the American flag burning is enough to send the message.

Let's send West a message. Let's beat him in November.

Please donate $3 to Patrick Murphy on ActBlue.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

was the Murphy response ad to West's disgraceful service to Murphy's bar fight. That was one of the better responses I've seen this year.

West is nothing if not tone-deaf; does his district have many Jewish retirees?  If so, this sort of attack will backfire.

Quite a card to play to sound like a pro-Israel person.  Soros does not support Likud or the Israeli right, like most of his fellow American Jews.

West sounds more like he wants evangelical pro-Israel "so Armageddon can happen" support.

In my district (for an open seat) you have a young kid, got million and millions from his parents. He is running against a two star general that once ran the Illinois National Guard. 35+ years of service.

But he also has a law degree. So the mailers I get from the Republican call him a trial lawyer. Please read that sentence again.

pretty delusional and paranoid.  It is hard to understand how someone like this has the emotional stability to perform his job.  The hate and anger must peel the paint from the walls. Some would say he is a "double stuff Oreo" black on the outside, white on the inside, I would have to say he is Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh and southern old white man on the inside.
    Whew such hate and anger.

Let me guess who is making those unsubstantiated allegations.  Could it be Allen West, who is alleged to be a complete lunatic and sociopath?

but I think most folks have the memories of fruit flies. Here is how West became popular with the far right and helped him get elected:

While serving in Taji, Iraq, West received information from an intelligence specialist about a plot to ambush his unit. The alleged plot reportedly involved Yahya Jhodri Hamoodi, a civilian Iraqi police officer. West had his men detain Hamoodi. Soldiers testified that in the process of detaining Mr. Hamoodi, he appeared to reach for his weapon and needed to be subdued.

Hamoodi was beaten by four soldiers from the 2/20th Field Artillery Battalion on the head and body. West then fired his pistol near Hamoodi's head, after which Hamoodi provided West with names and information, which Hamoodi later described as "meaningless information induced by fear and pain." At least one of these suspects was arrested as a result, but no plans for attacks or weapons were found. West said "At the time I had to base my decision on the intelligence I received. It's possible that I was wrong about Mr. Hamoodi."

Actually, it's a Florida GOP mailer - so where are their facts?

They're playing 6 degrees of Allegedly Kevin Bacon -- and in fact are attacking Murphy's supporters and a Murphy PAC and not Murphy.

Of course that doesn't make a damn bit of difference to the Q-Tips they're targeting with this flyer -- and the FlOP knows it.

Something else they know:  those same Q-Tips won't even be able to READ those cites let alone bother to research them.

  •  Yep. West is definitely a placeholder. (0+ / 0-)

Congresspeople are supposed to act as if they know how to responsibly run things.  All West has demonstrated is that he can insult people well.

He should be ashamed of himself acting this way, but the GOP money is too good to quit.
