Some sites and polls say Biden clearly won (MSNBC, Huff Post, CBS Poll), and others say it was a draw (NBC and CNN commentators and CNN Poll).  However, lets not forget the objectives of the evening for Biden:  1) Stop the Bleeding in terms of Momentum  2) Re-engage the base.  Both were accomplished.  This is a VP debate, the best Biden could do is stop the bleeding - and he did!  The worst he could have done is flubbed it, and allowed another day or two of bad news.

Clearly, the worst Joe Biden will come out of this is a draw, and one of the key issues discussed (abortion) is critical to the group that Obama has seen the most slippage in the past week.

This debate (which is at worst a draw to a moderate win for Biden) will dominate the news cycle Friday.  No one cares over the weekend.  Once we get through to Monday, all the focus will be on the next debate, rather than last weeks debate.  If O brings his A game, he (and we) win!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

If I had to sit there and listen to all the happy horseshit spewing out of Ryan's mouth.

I read Biden's reactions as "I can't believe this guy expects people to believe what he's saying."  I don't know if that's how others will see it, but I also don't care.

      Biden won, and won handily.

As Chuck Todd pointed out, when the opponent is pointing to physical characteristics and complaining about the moderator, that means they know they lost.

  •  Unfair camera angles (0+ / 0-)

The camera on Ryan had him facing in towards the center and toward the viewing audience.
Bidens camera had him facing not toward the center, but to the left and out of the frame.

Clearly a disadvantage for Biden who would be perceived as facing away frim the audience.

Who was responsible for this bad choice of camera angles?

arguments on both sides that their guy won. CBS polling suggests Biden, CNN suggests Ryan.

A "big win" for anyone? Not particularly. Solid performances I'd say is more like it

a credible news source. Period. Ryan knows absolutely nothing about foriegn policy and Joe Biden wiped the floor with him. Joe also proved who cared about the middle class of this country and people believe him hands down over Lyin Ryan because Joe's been proving it for over 20 years.

  •  oh, a clear win (0+ / 0-)

Biden clearly carried the night - and while Republicans may not have been moved, they saw the passion on the other side.  The debate stopped cold the narrative about a Romney/Ryan momentum.  People will begin looking at stabilizing numbers and say he did the job.  Obama was going to win anyway - and now some of that credit will go to Biden.

By the way, I saw a presidential candidate last night in Biden in a way I never thought about before. I would vote, but more importantly, actively work for him.  He works for me. That's clear enough.
